New guy from Central Florida here. Always preferred a shave from a non-electric razor but have been using the electric for years because the expensive and wasteful cartridges got old. Came across a link to classicshaving recently and it sparked an interest. I tend to like "classic" things anyway (I drill holes with a brace and use wooden hand planes) so this is a natural for me. I have an old cut-throat that may be salvageable and am considering a DE to handle daily shaving before work until I get the hang of the straight (and any other time I'm more hurried.) I tend to obsess a bit on new things so you may hear a lot from me. -Craig
Welcome to The Shave Den! A great community of guys and gals that enjoy wet shaving, I hope you enjoy your stay!
Welcome to the Den Craig! I am an old straight razor owner too, and I will try to renew it,...Here you can see the work of some members .... and how much nice a razor can be
thanks! Thanks for the warm welcome all. Now who has the suggestions for an affordable vintage DE razor? -Craig
Welcome to The Shave Den! As far as an affordable DE razor, there are usually good deals to be had in the classifieds here for Gillette Techs, or maybe Superspeeds. I would say don't discount new Merkurs, though. They tend to be good shavers.
:signs046 to TSD, Craig. Even if you choose not to buy one there, check out e-Bay. You will see a variety of vintage DE as well as SE razors for a range of prices. I happen to be partial to the Gillette NEW. It dates from about 1930 and gives great shaves.
