Who said this was less expensive?

My whole life I'm a traditional wetshaver. I began at age of 14, and I already had a heavy, tough beard. I was using a cheap DE that Daddy bought for me, Noxzema shaving lather cream, and a cheap brush. This was back in Israel. I remember the blades were very, very cheap back then.

This can be inexpensive... if you decide on products you like and don't get caught up with AD's and buy in bulk. However, I personally like to try variuos things.

I may have started thinking cheaper while better shaves(which is true to a large extent) but it's priceless when I can actually enjoy something that I had detested prior to. The experience with the soaps/creams/smells/feel is just a great way to start or end my day.

I know what you guys mean. I spent under $30 to get started, and kept it that way for about 6 months. But then my EAD (E being EVERYTHING) kicked in, and I've blown way more since then...

Sorry you got into it the expensive way! We need to figure out how to help get the word out more for everyone.

Maybe we could take up a collection and run a few commercials to help out all our fellow brothers?

    > Shaving with cartridges - $100 per year.

    > Wet shaving - $200 initially then pennies per year.

    > Watching Mantic59's videos on YouTube - Priceless!

    Hi alls.

¡I've the feber and the Acquisition Disorder too!

I'm a wetshaving man (brush and creme or soap) untill my first shave (33 years), but I started in the DE's world the last august. By the moment I've spent +- $100 in 4 vintage safety razors that are coming from around the world (now I'm living next to my mailbox); regarding the next future I must spend maybe others $100 in 2 shaving brushes (1 silver tip and 1 bristle). I don't want to think in cremes, aftershaves, blades, etc...

    Doesn't matter, I will survive.:happy093

    La Toja

Hola hola-ndés (you are from Holland, aren't you?)!!

All my shaving life I've used Williams cream, La Toja (cream, soap sticks, after shave spalsh, bar soap,...), Guillette cream and Noxzema. In Spain the La Toja's shaving products are very populars and not so expensives too.

Rigth now I've used a blend of soap stick "La Toja" and a little touch (0,5 cm.) of green Proraso cream and it has worked very well: a lot of creamy leather and a good higway for my faithful Wilkinson Classic (I'm waiting for some vintage Guillette jewels -58TV/SS, Black tipe SS and Slim Adjustable); I won't wait much longer!

    See you.

Wet shaving with a DE CAN be cheaper. It is up to each person to decide how far they want to go. I started off really cheap (walmart kit and Merkur DE w/blade sampler).

I chose to go further and experiment and I enjoy every second.....well cept a blade or 2 haha.

I can't resist! I just keep spending money. I just bought a blade sampler pack since this entire time I have been using Merkur blades. They just arrived yesterday. I started witha personna. Not too bad. Kind of felt like it was smoother than the Merkur. I know that the buck does not stop here.

I guess I should clarify that I am not complaining about the cost, only just a little taken back on the amount that "I thought" I was in for compared to my lack of knowledge. Still having fun and enjoying MOST every shave.

Money aside, that is a very important part of this hobby and this great site.

Taking something that was previously a chore, and turning it into something you enjoy doing! :signs107

    well..

Gillette NEW model OK condition -$8
    Pure Badger Travel Brush -$25
Van Der Hagen Deluxe Soap -$2
    Glycerin - $1
    CVS Blades -$5
    Bowl Mug -$1
For Less than $50 I will be set for a couple of months...alot less than my dang Mach3 cartridges yearly price and "Sensitive" gel foam at $4 a can. I do however seem to have caught the bug so that may double in the coming days on another maybe Silvertip Badger brush and some nice luxuriusss Soaps.:D

I use my razor for months

Guys, am I stupid or what? I use amy Gillett for at least 4 months. Is this not good. I get razor burns and I am sure this is part of the problem, no/

I think more information is needed. When I started wet shaving which
was about 3 weeks ago I had razor burn around my neck area. Using
the techniques that I have learned from here and videos on youtube
    it is gone.

It just takes a little practice and having the right products to fit you.
like many have said on here one product isn't for everyone. Try some
different products such as blades, creams and such. And brush up on
    your technique. Hope this helps.

I'll be straight with you. When I got into this hobby, all I could think and buy was wetshaving materials.

The ADs for me got old quickly.

Consequently I think I'm set for life when it comes to shaving and that's a nice feeling - esp. in light of the fact I was spending so much previously on the last leg of my shaving career prior to traditional wetshaving - BICS/Good News + Canned Foam.

If you play it right, it's cheap.

It all depends on how much self control you have. However, I think most everyone experiences some ADs as part of this experience. As you develop your technique and find what works best for you I'm sure it will slow down (at least I hope so).

    no one has mentioned....

...that if you don't like something you have bought, unless it's just crap and worthless, can be resold, likely for somewhere close to your buy price, and in some cases even above (especially for you guys who started this crazy awesome hobby before the rest of us discovered it and ran up the prices...!).

Point being, your "net" cost can be very little, if any.

Try THAT with a Mach 3 cartridge and can of spray foam!!
