I've been lurking and learning long enough, and so bought a couple DE Gillettes and plunged right in! Trying to perfect my technique, and find that every time I scrimp on prep, I pay the price. So, in spite of being a slow learner, I am trying to follow a routine more. Anyway, hello from a new guy in NC! Jim in Greensboro, NC
Welcome to The Shave Den! A great community of guys and gals that enjoy wet shaving, I hope you enjoy your stay! Be sure to sign up for the September Newbie Give-Away for a chance to win some great shave gear!
Welcome! According to the great Mantic 59, one should shave straight down for 3 weeks before trying more fancy stuff.
Funny you should mention Mantic. I found the site thru LifeHacker, when they had a feature on wet shaving and linked to his video. Instantly fell in love with the retro idea of a vintage Gillette, shave soap and Aqua Velva. And the rest is history! Now have accumulated some razors, already time to sell some off, and now getting ready to try SE shaving. It's a cool "hobby"--not sure that's the word--maybe 'lifestyle choice!"
Welcome to The Shave Den Jim. Shaving is like most things where preparation is 90% of the battle. My prep is fairly simple...I wash my face with a glycerin based soap prior to lathering up with my favorite soap or cream. I also wash my face in between each pass.
