its not folded and have a nice skin but still.....to know its made of the best steel around....:drool

 

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but it is VERY unlikely that they will ever be back in stock...hardly anyone is making razors anymore, and Tamahagane?

There's no way, and I mean this in all seriousness, NO WAY they are selling a razor made of Tamahagane for less than $300, unless something is seriously wrong with it...Sounds like a fishing lure, to me...

 

lol. yes i know. i was thinking it should be more like $800 at least. and it didnt have the....uh....."ha"? the blade didnt have a skin so it wasnt exactly like what i wanted but...do you know who might custom make me a razor with tamahagane?

 

There are a few razor makers in JP who would make one but the cost would be extremely high. The process is so long, arduous, and expensive that you'd really have to blow them out of the water to make it their while.

As for the razor, it is a real Tamahgane razor. It is a vintage razor that was made at least 50 years ago. I know this because I owned the exact same razor, before I sold it to a friend. Mine was in NOS condition and still had the ornate paper on the handle that had all its info about it being a Tamahagane razor.

It's very rare, especially in that condition. I don't know anywhere that has it.

Is there a way to tell if a razor is in fact Tamahagane?

 

I don't know of any other way besides the stamp on the blade.

 

agreed. because from what i can tell they dont actually make thousands of layers like on a sword. so in that respect there is no way of knowing just by looking at it.

yeah. always wanted one but thought 300$ was a little too much at the time. but i ordered one finally and it should be here by sat. why?

lol. got it. well.....yeah i guess that is obvious. but also, so far from my research not just on straights but also kitchen knives and such....i found that 99% of the time the japanese have the best steel and can get the sharpest edge. also the design of the razor is one that also helps in getting the sharpest edge. only having a bevel on one side. from what iv read that enables the edge to be stronger and thinner to get the best edge. with my past luck with japanese blades.....im learning to trust them with all my blade needs.
