With a straight it takes me about 40 minutes from the time I turn on the water in the sink to get hot to the time everything is cleaned and dried. With a DE, it's about 25 minutes for the same. I rarely use my DE anymore though as I much prefer the shave I get with my straight.
Alan, have a look at that review I wrote, and you will see the razor. It's very gentle and easy to use.
Jeff, Rene tipped me off to your review and I read it this morning. Great job! I think I may have to look into one of these. Thanks for listening and hope your eyes recover soon, Alan
Shaving is such an enjoyable enterprise, why watch the clock. Isn't that the reason that we pitched our Mach 3 and other absurd plastic shaving utensils , for the sheer enjoyment of shaving. Be the brush - Be the razor. ( A little Zen in the morning). Having said all the above, My shave takes approx. 20 minutes.
Time? I have my own bathroom downstairs just off my office. I turn on some good classical music and take my time and relax. Been known on my day off to take a nice bourbon and water with me. Nobody else is awake or about to wake up, so the world is mine. I would probably estimate about an hour or so locked in. When I come out I am shaved, showered, dressed and ready for the world to take its best shot. This is the very best part of my day. Sometimes its a DE or a SE or a str8. Everything is 50-100 years old and that just adds to the allure. I should have started doing this 50 years ago!
Wow, maybe I need to slow down. It takes me about 10-15 minutes on a work day, and 15-20 if I really relax and take my time. :ashamed001
The full business with straight razor, preshave oil, hot towels, three passes and a touchup around the neck takes about 35 min. Three passes with the L type injector takes 7 - 10 minutes. Somewhere in between is a leisurely three pass shave with a DE. goshawk
Not necessarily - if you're enjoying the shave you get and the process of getting it, why drag it out thrice as long?
Ugh. I think I'm at about 40 minutes. I need to either get my time down or start shaving at night before I go to sleep.
It depends. I can do a quick shave in about 5 minutes when I have to. If I'm taking my time, going for the BBS, and trying to enjoy myself half hour easy.
For me 10 minutes. This includes filling the sink, face prep, getting a blade in the razor, taking out everything needed, and applying aftershave, and cleaning everything and putting it away.
