OK, you've got several nice razors. Different styles, models, makers etc and you rotate through them all. Do you use the same one till the blade needs changing and then go on to a different razor? Do you use a different razor and blade combination each day? Do you rotate razor A, B, C, D etc and then repeat or is it just random? How about specific razor and blade combinations? Keep them together or mix them up? Cyril
I expect there will be more than a little variance in the answers! I have four razors "out" in a holder on the bath counter. Two have been there for quite awhile (Fat Boy & Schick Adjustable), the other two get swapped out every week or so. Right now there's a Micromatic and an Old Style Big Fellow also. I pick something different most days, swapping the DE blade between the DE's, leaving the SE's alone until they tug or the razor gets rotated out. Each day I pick a razor, a brush and a soap (90% of the time it is soap) and go at it. Not very structured eh?
-I use a razor with a blade until the blade needs to be changed. Just don't feel the need to swap the blade around. -I tend to have razor and blade combinations that work well and some that don't. Unless I'm trying something new, I stick with combinations that work. -Everything else is based on what I feel like or occasionally a theme week here at TSD
I used to use them all...about 20 in total but I now only rotate betwen a toggle and a fatboy. For me, nothing else comes close to them.
The short answer is Yes. Currently, I put a blade in a razor and use that razor for the life of the blade and then switch. However, from time to time, I load up a number of razors at once and rotate daily. I have also moved the some blade from razor to razor. With SE razors, however, I have found that I can't let the blade sit. If I don't use it every day, then it is bad before I use it again.
Well thanks for the input, folks. Much as I expected. Lots of variety and not unlike I myself do. I keep a blade in a razor until it's time to change it but do switch razors just because I want to. Same for the brushes I have, including several that I've turned myself, as well as soaps and creams. I guess the only constant I have currently is the Dickinson's WH.
I only rotate S/E razors these days.Occasionally I whip out my open comb Muhle R89 for a spin, but other D/Es just don't do it for me.
I do a little of everything. Sometimes I rotate on a whim and just take the blade I'm using and use it in different razors (I've gone through all four of my DE razors with one blade before). Sometimes I just change razors for the life a blade. I'm moody so I never know what I'm going to do.
Pretty much what i do...9 times outta 10 I just grab the ol' fatboy....I have a small box of razors under the sink (yes...the wife doesn't like to have 4-5 razors sitting on the counter...Errr) but when the mood strikes I grab a british tech or a bar handle open comb...usually use it for 4-5 shaves...toss the blade and put the old war horse fatty back on the counter....to each his own! cc
I've got a rotation of 29 razors of both SE and DE type. I use 7 of the DE and 11 SE razors that I work with and then include a sub-rotation by adding two of the remaining 11 DE razors added to the DE rotation. I use an SE one day and a DE the next.
How different we humans are! And so are razors. So in my book that means I enjoy using one more than another. So I use my favourite razor most days and occasionally the other two that I preferred to all others I tried (14 I think) I don't see much point in spending most of my life not using my favourite razor! For me, creams and soaps are different too. But I have so many equal first favourites! So I rotate those. I'm just getting into straight shaving now. Three razors. Only used one so far. Time will tell.
