woman curious about DEs

I have been doing so much research on getting my DH one of these, that I wondered if they work as well on a woman's legs. I can't imagine doing bikini line with one, but if that is also a viable option, I would be glad to hear it.

I am looking at getting DH the following:
Edwin Jagger Double Edge Safety Razor 87- Ivory
Pure Badger K37 Ivory Shaving Brush by Edwin Jagger
Razor and Shave Brush Modern Holder

Would I want the same type of razor for myself? Are there better razors for the shower (gripwise)? and how about blades? There is also the Merkur Futur which is adjustable...is that a better option for a woman?

    Thanks!

I'm sure the other ladies will be around shortly to give specific advice. But for a quick answer, you can shave with a DE anywhere you'd use a cartridge and get great performance (at least from what I hear).

Gillette had a few models back in the day specifically targeted for women. Longer handles, "girlier" colors. But I agree with above - pretty much any DE is going to work on legs just as well as the face.

Wish I could talk my wife into one... :)

My wife recently butchered her legs with a disposable and wanted to try a DE. The mildest one I had was a Super Speed which she said was okay but still a bit too exposed.
I did find a Lady Gillette for $20 that is in excellent condition. I decided to try it first to see the difference and it is very, very mild. It does give a great shave and I'd say it is comparable to a Shick Krona.
Either the Krona or the Lady Gillette should be a great razor for ladies.

I don't think you will have problems. My face is quite sensitive, and safety razors give me a great shave. If you take your time (warm shower/bath, nice moisturizing soap, and a good lathering soap/cream), you can use a safety razor anywhere (legs, bikini, underarms, etc.). I would suggest trying the routine with everything but the blade (especially for the bikini area) to learn your contours. Anyhow, that's my 2%.

You will have zero problems. My wife is technically challenged and has cut herself ONCE, much LESS than the cartridges. I lost my beloved 40's gillette super speed to her beautiful smooth legs, and I'm very OK with that. Come to think of it my Bigelow cream has come up missing too?

    Thanks for the advice

Thanks for your input everyone! I decided to order my DH a EJ set. He has never used this stuff either and is not expecting this Christmas present. If he doesn't like it (and, maybe, even if he does), I will try using it too and see what I think. It comes with a sampler pack of blades (Lords) and shaving creams-EJ (not very feminine sounding/smelling creams, but it would be a start).

Ladder44-I will definitely take your advice and practice without a blade first! That makes so much sense since I am really nervous about cutting myself (I do it enough with disposables, I can't imagine the damage with a DE).

BUT, I can handle the V-Slicer, which is a deadly kitchen gadget and I have never lost a finger tip, because I read the reviews and paid attention to other's errors. It really should not be any different here....practice with safety in mind.

By the way, Do you think Mantic might do a leg shaving video? He did an excellent job on the face! LOL

I started off with a Gillette Tech. A mild razor that is easier to find and less expensive than the Lady Gillette. Taylor of Old Bond Street (TOBS) Avocado shave cream is excellent for leg shaving. The TSD creams are good and come in some "girly" scents that are great. I have never used any Lord blades so I've no comment on them. Check out the review section of the forum for info on Lord blades and Jagger creams, and other products you have interest in.

I think Mantic should do a leg shaving video....I wonder how much we will have to pay him ;)

Mrs. Mantic has consented to assist me in a leg shaving video. It'll be sometime next year.
