i plucked a hair out of my boar hair brush and tried. put hair to blade and it took some doing but finally got it to slice in two. does my blade need honing. just bought the thing about 3 weeks ago and it was honned then. maybe i'm stropping wrong
How does your razor shave? The HHT is not the end all test for razor sharpness. I can get a blade to pass hht off of my dmt 600 sometimes, but i would not shave with it. Also keep in mind. All of these sharpness tests. TNT,TPT,HHT... They are used when honing. Not only that, you have to get a feel for all of them. The HHT in particular has many variables that can affect the test. In the end, the shave test is all that really matters.
it shaves pretty good, i think. i'm a newbie to the world of str8ts. i just had a day off from work so i started watching you tube videos and reading up all over the internet about straight razors. gets confusing out here for a newbie. so i'm not gonna worry about it. i'm just gonna shave and learn that way. I am getting pretty good at stropping (i think)
Hey, I'm new to straights as well, and its information overload when embarking on the whole thing. I found the best thing was to get the razor and shave, then try and find answers to my questions or concerns. As for the HHT and other tests, I can't do any of them. I tried the HHT when I first received the razor and couldn't do it. I'd love to get some feedback on my stropping too, but haven't got a clue if I'm good or bad at it. What I do know is there is a considerable difference between stropping and not stropping the blade, and that seems good enough for me. It shaves well, and the razor sings so I guess I'm doing something right. One thing I do after stropping is shave the back of my hand, and the blade seems to effortlessly take off the hair so I figure it should do the same to stubble.
agreed. i just wish my wiskers grew faster so i could shave more and refine my technique "I wish my whiskers would grow faster so I could shave more often;" it's weird even saying that. i use to hate shaving
well keep in mind you are trying to use the HHT on a BOAR hair......your not using it on YOUR hair.....your not shaving a boar :happy102 but as i have been told you need to create the HHT last....so basically you get the razor as sharp as you possibly can. shave with it. if its a really good shave....see what it can cut with the HHT. then when you go to hone again you use YOUR VERSION of the test. so first get it to give you a perfect shave....then while its that sharp see what it can cut for the HHT.
Actually, boar and badger hair is thicker than human hair and easier to pass the HHT. That said, as long as its shaving fine for you, I wouldn't worry about it. Razors go dull with time, no matter how much you try. HHT is a honing test, not a "does it shave 3 weeks later" test.
hht Hello have not posted much here but have found some good info here in the last few days. I find that a pasted strop following by a good stropping will allow most of my razor to pass. Some fine points: The thicker the hair the easier they are to cut. The root end is easier to cut then the hair end. hold the hair close will give the hair less room to bend out of the way, and it will cut easier. Sometimes the sharpest blade does not give the best shave.
