So no idea how it broke - and I like it but just wanted to get some feedback back on whether there is another product I might like better. (around the same price point, maybe be a tiny bit higher priced. Also I dont care too much for the 7am blades I have, since no matter how gentle I am being I just bleed around the adamsapple area.

    thanks guys!!!!
    Happy Shave Year!

For about 33 to 36 dollars you can get a merkur HD, I love this razor.

I think any of the Merkur 3 piece razors would be fine. HD is a popular choice, or the 1904 classic. The one of mine that I like best is the Barber Pole Open Comb.

If you want another TTO razor, then maybe your best choices are vintage. Schick Kronas and Gillette Super Speeds usually are pretty inexpensive, and a Gillette Slim adjustable shouldn't run you too much.

Blades? Try Sharks is my advice. That's Shark with a k, not Sharp. Just as 7 am is not the same as 7 O'Clock. :)

IMHO, YMMV, FWIW, etc., etc., etc. ;)

There are a lot of good options.

For new razors: Merkur 3 pieces as suggested as well as Edwin Jagger, and Muehle Pinsel, or maybe a feather portable... TTO razors: Weishi, and um?

Yes, good vintage razors are excellent just watch out for eBay rubbish.

So out of curiosity, what happened to the Parker?

If you want to stay with a Parker 22R, I have a nearly new, lightly used one.
    PM me if interested.

The closest in size and weight in a TTO is a Gillette Super adjustable. Recommended.

Okay - The Parker 22R broke on one of the hinges of the butterfly opener part. No idea why - I just twisted to change the blade and when I put in the new one, and twisted down, it just popped off. I did not drop or anything - It just sits in it's parker vinyl case, so I dont know what would cause that.

I like the Parker, but I would not mind trying something new.

Could you guys assist me on finding the Amazon for those Razor choices. seem there are a couple different models/selections of each.

Also i think I will try those Shark blades as recommended.

    thanks so much

Plenty of options on razors that have already been stated. I personally like the vintage models.

In blade, I recommend getting a sample pack. Opinions on blades are very personal and what work great for one face is terrible on another. Bullgoose, West Coast Shaving (both USA) and Connaught Shaving (UK) have good sample packs.

Erik's advice about blades is spot on. Have a look at this thread for sample pack vendors.

I don't understand. There is only 2 Merkur HD's that I know of. Gold and Chrome. The only difference is the color.

actually based on a search on amazons shows 34c, classic, Barber pole, a #178, long handle, and a 38B, 39c, 34G, 11C , These all have HD in the title.

    the 34c is the HD.

I'd recommend you buy directly from a vendor instead of using Amazon. You get better service that way. Example- if the razor's damaged in shipping you can work things out with a person and not a bureacracy (spelled wrong, I know).

I recommend Bullgooseshaving. There are many good vendors out there, many of whom are members here.

the bullgoose site also stocks 5 packs of the shark blades you're looking for.
