This puck has lasted a life time, actually a good 1-1/2 months or so. The last 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch seems to never change. When do you folks pitch the puck?

when there is no longer enough to work. If it is still making enough lather, then there is no need to change it. But if you just want to.... I won't tell.

Actually, I have so many soaps in rotation, I haven't finished many pucks.

Wait till you try a triple milled soap. VDH lasts me just over a month, MWF and triple milled pucks I estimate at about 5 months of daily use.

I currently have Tabac Original By Maurer & Wirtz For Men. Shaving Soap Bowl 4.4 Ounces & Proraso Shaving Soap with Eucalyptus Oil and Menthol - Normal Skin 150ml/5.2oz on order from Amazon. These two a lone would probably last 6 months or so judging the time I have put in on the cheap but effective VHD Puck.

Out of curiosity, what Triple milled puck would you recommend?

Don't pitch it. Put the remaining soap on top of a new puck, microwave it for 5 seconds, and let it cool.

Several will work well, which is best will depend on your scent and lather preferences, and water quality. A few good makers are DR Harris, Trumper's, Truefitt & Hill, Pre De Provence, and Provence Sante. You might want to read through some reviews if interested. While not triple milled, Mitchel's Wool Fat is excellent and lasts just as long.

Tabac is milled, though I don't think it's triple milled. It will still last 4-5 months from what I've heard. I personally don't care for the scent so I haven't tried Tabac.

I think the Proraso is a softer soap, but thanks to the large size I'd expect it to last at least 4 months. Perhaps someone who has actually used it will chime in. In this case I don't like menthol until after my shave which is why I haven't tried the Omega/Proraso soap.

Great for VDH, just don't do this with milled or tallow based soaps.

When I got my first soap: went with a VDH "Premium Shave Kit" (Boar Brush, Bowl, and Soap for $8.50) I bought an extra puck thinking that I would be blazing through the thing.

I was wrong, about a week in and hardly making a dent in it! glad to see I'm not doing something wrong to make it last so long lol.

Tabac lasts an amazingly long time. I had a puck for six months with almost daily use and it still has a lot of life left.

Recently (2-3 weeks) I started using some Proraso. I doubt it will have near the life of the Tabac.

Back in the day, I remember getting close to a year from my Old Spice. When I switched to Williams when OS was no longer available, I noticed I'd burn through a puck a lot faster.

I also stated using the TSD soaps more lately (liking it a lot, too). I think that will last quite a while too. But JoAnna can attest to that better than me.

For a few years, I used Classic Shaving soaps and I'd get tired of the scent long before the bottom of a puck (a much maligned but very decent soap,IMO).

Just tried VHD deluxe coming from Williams. GOODBYE Williams! Man, what a lather! Nice subtle scent, so far away from that soap smell of Williams, too. Nice and slick, good enough to splash on a handful of water after 3 passes keeping it slick enough for touch ups. My son has been encouraging me to try it, and I'm glad a finally splurged a whole buck fifty four and got a great soap.
