I finally understand the old term "Shaving Kit"!!!
I haven't been on a trip or vacation since I started using a safety razor. In the pas it was just a cartridge razor and small can of gel in a ziplock bag.
We are anticipating a trip south soon and realized I can't live without brush/cream/mug/razor/extra blade/stepic penicl/aftershave. I'm sure some of you even travel with more stuff. Now I have to find an "Old Kit Bag" to carry my shaving supplies in.
Any suggestions on how to travel with my new shaving necessities, especially a wet shaving brush (I'm worried about ruining the bristles)?

A neat trick I saw on a youtube video by Mantic59 when traveling with a brush is to use and empty prescription pill bottle. Place the brush in the bottle handle first as to not bend the bristles backwards.

You'll want a dopp bag or similar for your stuff. Some common travel tips:
-use a shave stick for your soap, it very compact
-Face lather to so you don't need a bowl
-For the brush, either use a travel tube (empty pill bottles work well, as at your local pharmacy) or just bring an inexpensive brush like an Omega 48, Vulfix VS/5, or Tweezerman badger. While being shaken around in a dopp kit will be somewhat hard on a brush, it will still last for years.

How do you get it back out without bending the bristles?

    Handle side down.

Yeah. Makes sense now. I wasn't thinking of the straight side bottles.

I use an old Centrum Silver Vitamin Bottle that I drilled some holes in the bottom and cap. I have a small brush (an old Burma Shave Brush) that slips right in and I can screw the cap on and it's a perfect fit. If you are a soap user you can find a small puck shaped container. (I used a small styling gel container that is about the size of a small puck - I haven't needed styling gel for a long long time) and travel soap dish (rectangular) for the razor and blades. There are some cheapie ideas that work great.

Several years ago I was traveling a lot. I invested in a travel brush from "Baxter's of California." It was pure badger and I believe it was made by Muehle. It's a pretty good brush. I'm not sure it's still available under that name, but Muehle still sells one like it.

It's not incredibly durable, and I've never used it, but would a toilet paper roll or paper towel roll protect a brush? I tried it out this morning and it fit really well.

I have seen brushes shipped across the county in those. It will do to protect the brush, but I wouldn't want to put an even partly wet brush in there for a trip.

Other options for the brush... large spice jars fit some brushes well, depending on the size of the brush, you might be able to either cut a section off of the plastic tubes sold in the sporting goods for golf bags (to organize the clubs) or the plastic tube that fluorescent lights can be slid into from a hardware store. Find a tube that is the right diameter and cut it to length.

    For the razor:
3 piece razors are a good way to go. You can put most 3 piece razors in an empty altoid box. I put a little piece of foam on top/bottom/sides to protect the razor.

If you can get one, a 4 piece travel razor is even better. This is the type where the handle comes apart and the smaller part of the handle fits inside the larger part of the handle. The entire razor fits in a box less than 2"X2".

Also an altoids box is big enough for several small bottles: After shave, witch hazel, cologne, etc...

My DW bought me one of these in the small size for my birthday last year, and it's been awesome. Holds pretty much anything I need as far as toiletries and shaving supplies. The little side pockets are just right for holding a brush, no tube/carrier necessary. I had just a big generic Dopp kit before. this is much more organized, keeps things in place, and plus can hang up in the shower if you need it to. I highly recommend it!

    Cheers,

    +1 on that, KS :happy088

I have more or less the same and like it very much. I do use a tube for the brush, but that is more because my Kent T8 and me have already a long-lasting relationship and I want to continue this :D

I always try to bring one of the million samples I have for aftershave. Usually a shave stick and brush. I mail the blades to the hotel and thats it.
