Got this head from GNib yesterday, thought I would make my dad a new one. He's 92 and isn't comfortable any more shaving with a DE. This one is cherry. Thanks for looking. Rich
That definitely brings the look of the M3 up a few notches. A great idea for your father too. Use the safety of a cartridge, and still feel stylish.
I'm going to see him tomorrow (Sunday) and will give him a shave. I did that last week with his dad's old style ball end and a SuperMax blade. This week, either the same razor with an Iridium or the Mach3, haven't decided yet. He really likes the hot towel regimen (who doesn't?) and with some TOBS Sandalwood creme and some Thayer's Rose tonic, he'll feel like a youngster again. I also have his dad's SE Gem, but with the Gem blades I have, I feel it's a bit aggressive for him. His skin is not taut (what can you expect at 92?!?!?) and it's difficult to grab while shaving him. Thanks for the kind words. I'm thinking about maybe trying to market some of these along with some brushes, but will wait to see how much interest is generated. Rich
I drill out and rethread the Mach 3 heads from the Golden Nib so they accept a #10-32 same as a Gillette DE head. That way you can use the same handle with a DE head. They're still not a very big seller, I've only sold 10 or so in over a year.
Bob, Gorgeous work, as usual. I agree about the M3 handle sales, those that use the M3 probably don't care too much about the handle. I may make a couple more for gifts, but will sleeve it to increase the weight. Or may try some micarta, since I have a bit of that on hand. I rethreaded this one as well. Thanks, your work is an inspiration. Rich
To improve the balance of my wooden handles I now bore out and epoxy in a 2 inch long by 5/16 brass rod. This not only makes the razor not head heavy but provides a more secure anchor then threading the wood. I didn't want to mach a separate line of handles for the Mach 3 heads so rethreading them to accept #10-32 thread mean the head will fit any DE handle and the owner if they wish can change from the Mach head to a DE.
