First i would like to thanks mastermute, it's because of him that i got the chance to try that razor. As far as i know those razors were made in Poland during the communist era. The razor looks like a Tech but don't be fool by his look, the razor shaves like a HD or a Progress at 3 so it's quite an aggressive razor but when handled carefully it rewards you whit a smooth BBS. The balance of the Lux is a lot better than the Portable in my opinion. The usual Tech lovers might find it a bit too aggressive but those whit tough beard will like it. If you the chance to get a hand on one don't miss it. Btw: i know my thread kinda looks like a review but i don't have any picture of the razor so i post it here.
I put pics of mine in my den linked at the bottom in my signature. I too would like to thank mastermute for mine as I won it in a PIF of his. I find the Lux pretty aggressive. I use a '68 slim adjustable on 6 as my go to but like most of us, if I have it, I'll use it. When I do use the Lux, I get a decnet shave but with more irritation than when I use my slim adj., which is probably to be expected since I use the slim most of the time. I have tried Bic chrome, and Dorcos in it thus far with the same result from both. I think I need to use it for a week or two straight to get the hang of it to be able to give it a fair review. B&B has a pretty good review and critique of it if you fellas are curious.
I read a review that the bottom head plate is cheap stamped and has rough edges to scrape your face as you shave.
Have a link to that review? Sorry, but I like to see the source of information, otherwise it just seems hearsay to me. Maybe from all the research I've had to do in the past.
Yes, there are marks from the shears on the guide bars. But since it SS and not plated it's very easy to smooth off these rough edges by wet sanding with 320 and then 400 grit W/D emery paper. I then buffed mine, I have 2 which I bought from the e-bayer in Krakow Poland. They're still a rather aggressive razor with more arch to the blade then a Tech. These razors were made during the "Cold War" for the Polish Army and all things considered the quality on mine is quite good.
Can anyone relate the aggressiveness of Lux to that of Leresche closed comb. I had my first and second experience with it yesterday and today and must say, it's a gem. I like the Barbasol but the Leresche is amazing. I am going to buy the Lux to see for myself but was wondering. Bad pic's great razor Kind regards,
It's from France. I hoped someone else has one and the Lux. Using a straight for my head and face, now switching to DE's. You miss the ability to manipulate the edge, and the endless clogging of the blade and head (shaving my head) face no problem. So I am experimenting a little. Need a little time off from the straights, just to try something different. Kind regards,
I think bob explained this well already but here is the link that turned me off from the LUX(on ebay right now for about $20) http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?ltr=L&t=35738
Ok, I'm going to give my Lux a full week beginning yesterday to see if I can squeeze not only a close shave but a comfortable shave out of it, I figure a week will give me the time needed to become familiar with the razor and learn it well enough to know if I like it or just have it and use it from time to time. As Bob said (the Cooncat type) the bottom piece is fixable. Mine is a little rough but not in a place where it can touch my face, I just haven't gotten around to prettying it up.
