Well, I ordered a #42 Merkur (before I found this site) have a bunch of soaps from my Mach3 days, badger brush and the will to learn. Looking forward to my first ever DE shave at 57. Am I nuts or what?

Welcome to TSD! 57 and never used a DE? You must have started on the Trac2 cartridges or had a beard when you were young. From what I've heard (I'm a little younger), Gillette did push those Trac2 cart's on the kids pretty hard.
Yep, and injectors were big too. Never had a beard, went in the Army right out of high school and never developed a desire for one.

Two weeks in Well I don't know how to contain myself. Two weeks of DE shaving and I believe I got a BBS. (Well real close anyway) Showered and whipped up a batch of lather from some TOBS sandalwood cream in my $2.00 cereal bowl, put a new Lord Super in my Merkur 1904 and did a 3 pass shave that is near flawless. I don't have any particular attachment to the Lord blades in fact I have a huge blade assortment pack that I've yet to delve into, the only reason for using the Lords is they came with my razor and I'm establishing a base to judge from. I'm told when I find the right blade and razor combo I'll experience Nirvana. Wow I can't wait. Thanks for the help and tips group.
