Many of us who are into traditional wet shaving use products containing lanolin. Most are soaps and cream (MWF, Musgo Real, etc.). Here is an interesting read on lanolin those of us who use it should find interesting. http://www.kabanaskincare.com/Lanolin,%20demythologized.pdf
I was a hospital corpsman in the Navy and we used lanolin back rubs on our long term patients to prevent bedsores.
I have a sheep ranch and in the winter when my hands gets chapped I run them through the fleece of the sheep and soften them up. Works great on dried out roping gloves as well. Never tried the wool fat shave soap but I'm definately going to give it a try.
Many years ago while living in NJ I had terrible winter dryness and skin cracking of my hands. A friend clued me in about Lanolin. I used to get tubes of USP pure lanolin. I would soak the tube in hot water for a minute or so to get the lanolin soft and then squeeze about an inch on my hands and rub it in. It is very sticky in this state and it takes a little while to be absorbed but it was worth it. Kept my hands moisturized and protected all day and prevented new cracks. Allowed the old cracks to heal w/o further dsamage. One warning, in this form it does stink.
Thanks for the fine article. Lanolin is great stuff. If you think about running your hands through someone's greasy hair, though, the whole base concept seems kinda gross. But that's just me. Up with Lanolin! Great stuff. K.T.
