I've now had my new brush for one week and am absolutely loving it. I thought a long soft bush like this would have difficulty with soaps but that has not been the case. I'm wondering what the difference is between this home made brush and a brand name. I got this one because I loved the handle and the price was certainly right.

Ok, I've got more questions about my brushes. This one was purchased about 8 years ago from a flea market. As I've stated in previous posts my wife is an antique collector and I had a bunch of vintage shaving items in my bathroom before I ever cared. I think this is Boar as it's pretty scratchy. Can anybody tell me more about this? There is no writing or markings on it.

Here's another. I got this one from a friend's father. He got it as a gift about 10 years ago and states he's never used it. The wood handle looks like it's lost some of it's varnish but the brush is in good shape and it works very well. I think it's badger. There is no readable writing on it.

For good measure here's a group pic of all my brushes.

If anybody is interested in PC Woodcraft here's a link the the website. The owner, Pat, was extremely responsive to questions and very pleasant to deal with.

You're definitely correct on the boar and badger knots in the vintage brushes.

If the boar is scratchy, it's either not broken in (never used) or a trimmed boar knot. If after a couple weeks of daily use you don't start to see the ends splitting, it's a trimmed low quality boar knot. Either way I like the handle and if the knot doesn't soften up, it would be a good candidate for re-knotting.

They could easily be hand crafted items and not have an easy to track history.

That's a nice looking PC Woodcraft brush. I hope it serves you well.
