I picked up a tube of Proraso shave cream today. First time I have used the product and I love it. The menthol effect was fantastic, the product is definitely in my rotation. My question to the Den is what ,if any, similar creams or soaps are available with this menthol and eucalyptus in them? I did some shopping around but descriptions are vague. Thanks in advance. Wyatt
Hi Wyatt46, Almost (or exactly) the same is the Omega shave cream. (comes in a black jar, just like the Proraso green jar) Bye, Eric
there's there's a cream called ingram that has menthol. I dont know if they have the same amount of menthol. I havent tried it yet (its in the mail). but I did buy some Menthol Crystals from ebay. you can sprinkle it on any cream and make it cool. I even went as far as putting some in my skin bracer to make it super cool. I love it. PS JM Frasers polar ice also has cooling effect
If you want to know anything about menthol, get in touch with Crackstar He's the KING of Menthol and in my opinion has tried everything available
Wyatt are you looking for a menthol face freeze blast, or a scent that is similar? For face freeze goodness, I rank these mentholated creams that I have tried as follows, from least cooling effect to the most: Proraso Ingrams Then for pure face freezing goodness, it is a tie between TSD Iced SubZero (Wheat Cream is my favorite) and My Time Bath and Body (MTBB) menthol. JoAnna's Iced SubZero is just flat out cold, and when you order from Jean at MTBB, she sends you an email asking how much menthol cooling you want on a scale of 1-10.When you go all the way to 10 it matches the Iced SubZero's cooling power. Both of these are so cold, that I never use them when I am trying out a new to me razor or blade brand, just because they freeze my face so much, and I may not feel a nick or slice until it is too late.
Hi Wyatt, As you can see, there are several products out there with menthol. As far as a menthol/eucalyptus combo, I'm not sure. By the way, Proraso repackages their cream for C.O. Bigelow sold at Bath and Body Works. Just used it this morning. Great stuff. For me it's just as much about the scent as the cooling. I really like the smell. And it shaves great, to boot!
And if you want a nice little kick in the chops (not sure how this compares to the mentholation of others (creams, soaps, or AS) but there is one of wonderful little gems out there called Pacific Rush AS by Barbasol, its $1.75 with a nice fresh scent and a MUCH stronger menthol feel than Proraso/Bigelow. Dollar General is the only place I have seen it. For under two bucks, you can beat it. It is one of my favorites.
To answer you, Bill I was interested in similar level of Cool, as well as the eucalyptus for its antiseptic qualities. The scent is pleasing but mild. If you Google "eucalyptus in shaving cream" the first 20-30 results will include Proraso, not to much more containing eucalyptus. I did find a product listed called Imperial Touch Eucalyptus & Menthol Shave Cream by Kandols organics, is anyone familiar with this? View attachment 14685 Lots of good suggestions, the TSD Iced SubZero sounds a little dangerous. Wyatt
Wyatt, Iced SubZero isn't dangerous, I just order it with extra menthol. If you have a look in the TSD store, JoAnna has Eucalyptus listed as one of the scent choices, and she can add menthol if you desire.
the regular "iced" version of TSD creams is quite nice if you're looking for an average cooling effect. I haven't used Proraso but I'm guessing its roughly equivalent.
Extra slap in the face... I thought I remembered reading somewhere that there is an oil or something like that that can be added to any shave cream to give it the menthol tingle...like a menthol booster or something. Personally, I agree with the general consensus...menthol = nice. I particularly like it in the summer when the coolness feels refreshing...though in the winter I put anything menthol aside in favor of woodsier/warmer scents. I had a sample of Cade shaving cream from L'Occitaine...personally, I thought it was too sticky feeling, but I absolutely LOVED the scent.
For a nice menthol scent and feel I like to use Noxzema as a pre-shave and then use either Proraso or C.O. Bigalow cream. This makes for a nice menthol combo.
