Dan, Just to do my part to fuel your Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor quality SRAD, here's a few centerfolds from "The Butcher Shop" over at SRP And finally, this isn't a Wade Butcher but these big huge framebacks are pretty sick too Hey! Seven more and I could make a calendar! Trolling the antique stores tomorrow. I doubt I'll score anything near this cool but maybe I can get a restorable old stray, clean it up, sharpen it and call it good.
Are those your straights 1oldGI ? Nice work on them. I would like to get a nice restored straight (mine are pretty cheap and old) maybe one day I'll use the rest of my retirement capital and purchase one!
Some lovely - and lovingly restored - razors. I especially like the Le Coultre. They don't show up often, and people seem to want horrendous prices for them when they do, but you can sometimes find one with a couple of spare blades for $50 or so. If you ever do, BUY IT! I've got prettier razors in my collection but nothing that shaves better or hones easier than the Le Coultre. Best Regards goshawk
Ha! I wish! I did however score a pretty sweet restorable Frederick Reynolds chopper with a Spanish tip and tortoise shell scales (like the first picture only not as pretty). I cruised the antique store this morning. The guy wanted fourty dollars for it but I haggled him down to $25. The blade is in pretty good shape. It may eventually need rescaling but I think I can clean it up, sharpen it and have it ready to rock for Grandpa shave Friday next week. The same shop had a LeCoultre for $58 (no extra blades though). This had very ornate black scales with inlayed mother of pearl. It will likely be my next target.
NSFW Here are the few big ones I've used: 7/8 W&B frameback in black horn scales & a 7/8 Joseph Rodgers in horn (bighorn?) another 7/8 Joseph Rodgers in black horn 8/8 George Wostenholm cleaned up by AaronX huge C-Mon Blackie just shy of 8/8 9/8 Joseph Rodgers next to a 4/8 Filharmonica 9/8 R. Sutcliffe in black horn And a couple more big ones just for fun Saw this on eBay awhile back Lynn of SRP posted this picture taken at a shaveworld convention. I wonder how it was honed? Ok ok one more, a 12/8 from Bill Ellis which now belongs to JLStorm of SRP:
I am really looking forward to seeing that Frederick Reynolds chopper next friday 1OGI. I have been cruising the antique stores and flea markets around here and there is NOTHING as far as razors; DE's, SE's, or Straights around here at any price. I did score a 3/8 Barber's Best through a friend that is usable but not much to look at compaired to the vintage beauties shown in this thread. I have sharpened it as best I can and will give it a try.
wowwee wowwoww! did I sense a blade trend here mostly...wedge,wedge..wedge..non wedge..wedge...:whacky011
