Hi, I need advice on an affordable safety razor with plastic grip. I will not use it everyday but it could be a safe one for a newbie. Thanks. Edit: I meant plastic coated :sick007
First off, Welcome to The Shave Den! A great community of guys and gals that enjoy wet shaving, I hope you enjoy your stay! Be sure to sign up for the March Newbie Give-Away for a chance to win some great shave gear! While its not required, how about you hop over to the Newbies Section and give yourself a proper introduction thread, I'm sure you'll receive many warm welcomes from the friendly folks of this community. If you are looking for a plastic grip razor, I recommend either the Feather Popular, or the Dorco PL-510. May I ask why you are looking for one with a plastic grip?
look for a Schick Krona. Great, mild, underrated razor that you can usually get for $10-15, often times even less. I love mine, and use it often. You could also look for a Gillette Knack/Slim Twist (same razor, nomenclature depending on what side of the Atlantic you're on) is a decent razor. There are also plastic handled SE (single edge) razors, usually GEM brand, that use the single edge blades as opposed to the double edged. If vintage razors aren't what you're looking for, you can look at the Parker razors, I believe there are some that are plastic handled, and a few other models by Gillette or Feather, you can see some in the TSD Store, here.

I hope plastic ones would prevent it. Thanks for your recommendations but I feel it would be safer if it's short and heavy. Also I would prefer if it's one with handle screw in so blade is loaded from back.

Are they still produced or vintage only?
vintage only, though there may be a knock-off, but I've never heard of one. they are fairly abundant, though
Vintage, Schick Krona, as already mentioned. A really good razor. Twist to open style. Modern, Lord Smart. Inexpensive 3 piece razor. When you get one, you'll be able to tell that it didn't cost a lot, but they're well made and work well. Welcome to TSD!
I have looked at pictures of the schick krona and its a nice looking item.........will check the auction sites for one .
you won't regret it. a lot of folks are put off by it because it has a plastic handle. however, it's a plastic handle that has survived ~40 years....and it's a darn good, underrated razor. I'm half tempted to find a couple more, just in case... oh, and when you get one, DON'T boil it...just sayin'...
I will second the motion for a Lord Smart. The head on it is very similar to a Merkur, and it shaves great.
He seems to be out of forum for the last 30 days. Edit: I will try e-mailing him. Thanks for the advice.
Yep, the Krona would be a great place to start - cheap, and it gives a great shape. I don't mean it gives a great shave at the price ------ it really is as good as, or better that, many razors that are orders of magnitude more expensive. DISCLAIMER: YMMV happy102 You can get them in good shape for under $15 shipped on Ebay (or in the classified section of the forums). You can even get NOS ones (but those are rarer and more expensive).
