*Passover Thoughts* As a child I never really thought much about being Jewish..now did I think about keeping Kosher (separation of milk n meat) and keeping the Sabbath--weekly synagogue attending..I went to private school during high school with every kid being a different religion..college...same thing...Finally happily married @ 28...now with a 15mo daughter..I finally feel as if I have realized the personal important of these personal "needs" had been met ever since our daughter was born between me n my wife..Last year our entire family got together @ my mothers home for the celebration of Passover..that for me n my wife was when it clicked about having the appreciation of who you are and what "goes along with being who/what you believe in" wishes to all who celebrate passover..remember Monday @ sundown and continues every evening for 1 week ;-)..Matzah! Matzah! Matzah! http://www.history.com/videos/history-of-the-holidays-passover#history-of-the-holidays-passover ek.310
I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Christian Easter story, but it very closely tied to the passover (the crucifiction was the week after passover week). While most Christians recognize the place of passover, it is rarely celebrated and most of us (myself included) don't know many details about how passover is traditionally celebrated. It a shame. I think about trying to learn more every year, but I've lacked follow through. I'll check out that video when I get home tonight and thanks for sharing.
That's great, I'm happy for you. These things are important, especially in uncertain times like these it helps to remain grounded.
Danny, thanks so much! I am going to a Sefardic Seder, because this is what my wife is. It is perfect for me, because I make the prayers in Nusach Sefarad. I'm going to read the Haggadah for us all!
Each year our family celebrates the Seder dinner with a Haggadah that is blended between the Christian tradition and the Jewish tradition. There are very close anyway and the symbalism is very beautiful. I look forward to it every year and as the leader of the house I read the Haggadah. I can't help but think about the future whe we will do this with our grandchildren around the table.
Passover Yeah man, happy passover. We used to do the seder with our friends in Israel and that was when the whole megillah was in hebrew, baby, it had that old world authentic ring and you felt like Elijah really might charge through the door any minute. Half or us were Ashkenaz and the other half were Sepherad so the food dishes were a little crazy and I had to keep both flavors of prayer books in the shelf depending on who showed up for what service, but it was fun. A long time ago in a galaxy far away when I was a reservist, I remember taking matzah that we softened up by running water over a stack then putting them in plastic freezer bags so we could make matzah roll up sandwiches out of them later. I would tuck them in my spare magazine pouches and head back to the base. Keeping holidays with friends and family reminded us why we had to stand a watch and keep a defense. Drink the wine, eat the matzah, next year in J-ville. BC
