Where can I find a decent strop for cheap? haven't shaved with a straight for the last 6 or 7 years. I had a cheap paddle strop that worked O.K. but I cant find it anywhere. Thanks
This is a very small strop. Ok for a beginner, but if you're anything like all us other addicts, you're gonna want an upgrade soon after. If Tony Miller was around I would have recommended getting one of his strops and paying 8 dollars extra for the practice strop as something to nick while you (re)learn stropping. Now that I think about it though, if your stropping technique isn't great yet, maybe it would be good to get a Filly strop from ruprazor or that Dovo strop to practice on before you spend money on a better strop.
Thanks for the replies. I will probably pick up that Dovo strop. the price is right. it will, unfortunately have to wait for a while now, as my car decided it needs a new alternator this morning.
Google Illinois #827 and see what they are selling for right now... ($35 is normal) They are hard to beat and it is a dual component strop (seperate linen and leather), with real hardware, real linen, and real handles...
I just bought this one off of E-Bay ($21 with free shipping): http://cgi.ebay.com/BISMARK-SHAVING-SUPPLIES-LEATHER-STROP-1066-NEW-UNUSED_W0QQitemZ390170740985QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad7fd08f9 It's a Bismark 1067, which as I understand it is a re-badged Illinois. It has a leather side, and a canvas side, and seems to be of fairly good quality. I think it would make a good choice as a first strop.
