Shaving Supplies

Discussion in 'General Shaving Talk' started by The Flying Frenchman, Apr 16, 2010.

  1. Ok Gents and Ladies.

Heres the deal. I'm going to be serving a two year mission in Brazil for my church :D. My question is, do any of you know if shaving supplies are readily available. Since I'm going to have to remain clean shaven the whole time I'll be bringing along two trusty razors. Blades are no problem to bring a lot of. But what are the thoughts about soaps and such ? Are there any Brazilian forum members here who can vouch for the availability of product, or should I just get my parents to ship me stuff while I'm gone ?

Your help is much appreciated =D

I have had my Brazilian friends looking for shaving stuff for me but to no avail. It seems, according to them, that Gillette has taken over and you find the same stuff there as you do here.

Probably have to have "care packages" to take care of your shaving needs.

    LDS??

Can't help with the questions you ask, but God's blessings to you!! May you be blessed as Joseph - that all you put your hand to would prosper.

  4. Thanks everybody for the wishes. I suppose I could always just bring along a few shave sticks and have that work.
Yes I am LDS, and I hope that I will be blessed with good times for two years away from home. My dad works for US Airways, so at least I've traveled a lot so it won't be as much of a shock.

Brazil might still be a shock. Buy the stuff you'll need for two years and keep it in a safe place at home, take a 4 months' with you, and have your mom send you more as needed.

  6. Excellent advice. That sounds like a good plan. Anywhere for two years will be a shock. But from the little I've read it seems that Florianopolis where I'll be is rather modern for Brazil. Also there appears to be a large German population there. I was in German immersion at school for five years. My native language is French, and I took another five years of Spanish. So hopefully Portuguese should come easily enough :D.

thanks again everybody who responded to this post.

Two years worth of supplies shouldn't take up too much space. Three or 4 tubs of cream or pucks of soap should suffice. Also be aware that scents act differently in different climates so you should perhaps look at citrus based scents as opposed to woody scents.

Good advice so far! Try getting a number of shave sticks. They should last you a good period of time. Plus they are small compared to a soap in a bowl.
A couple of mentholated, fresh creams and you are ready to go!

And don't forget about the forum as a source for supplies. If you're wanting something in particular that you can't get any other way, you can always post your request here and I'm sure you'll get a response.

I'd take an alum block along; great as an aftershave, and it can
be used as an antiperspirant too. It'll take up no space
and probably last the whole two years. Plus, it wont leak all over
    your luggage!

    Best Regards
