Hi, I'm new here. I'm a 19 year old guy been shaving since I was 13 and a half. I've found the last year or so that I've preferred to shave only in the shower--it's much simpler and makes for an easier shave with the constant flow of water keeping the face soft.
Personally, I don't shave in the shower, but having read many threads here at the Den, there are a lot that do, but it seems the majority use the shower as a beard prep (steam and wash to get the beard softer). It does save a bunch on clean up by shaving in the shower. Welcome aboard here, young man. Lots of good people here, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Dan
before my enlightenment, I shaved in the shower - much more convenient, less messy, more efficient (water always on, quick rinse off, etc.) I tried DE a few times in the shower when I first started, but it was never quite "right" for me, so I begrudgingly tried at the sink. At first it was very odd and unnatural, like eating with the opposite hand, but it very quickly grew on me to be preferred, after a nice hot shower to prep the whiskers. Only way to know for you, though, is to try both. And give both an honest, whole-hearted try. I almost gave up on the sink, but stuck to it a few days and now I can't shave in the shower unless it's the only option.
Before I started traditional wet shaving (TWS), I found shaving in the shower was better. Given the mass-market products being used it was the only way to keep enough water in the mix to get a decent shave (or what I thought was decent at the time). I no longer shave in the shower. I started TWS at the sink and have never tried in the shower, mostly based on report of those who have.
Being a straight-razor guy, I dare not shave in the shower lest I drop the razor and lose something of great value (at least to me)!:happy102
oh come on, the worst that could happen would be you'd walk funny without one of your toes.... oh wait, not that you say?
I never shave in the shower because I don't like to rush. I worry that the hot water will run out or something. I just like taking my time at the sink and mirror.
"Anyone shave in the shower?" No, I shave with a straight razor and it would be a huge mistake to try to handle a razor with slippery hands while being nude. Use your imagination.
Prefer the sink myself, so I can concentrate and enjoy the ritual. However my barber, who I consider a real shave pro, swears by the shower method. He uses a disposable twin and swears he gets the best BBS's ever that way. He acknowledges that this takes away much of the shaving ritual and fun, a big downside, and occasionally shaves at the sink when enjoyment comes first.
When I used a Mach 3, I found shaving the shower was a little better than shaving at the sink. But with a DE or straight, I prefer the sink. A good soap or cream, plus rinsing between passes keeps the hair soft.
Shower Shave Personally, I shave in the shower with a mirror on most days. I find it keeps the face more moisturized; however, I exclusively face lather in the shower. I rub a soap of my choice on to the face, get the brush wet, shake it out a little, then lather a way. The lather stays in the brush for at least 4 lather ups. The only challenge is that it does not keep the lather warm. When I have plenty of time, I like to shower, then shave at a sink. I use boiling water in a tub, then, put my bowl of lather on top to keep the lather and brush warm. Of course this is my preference. Best Shaving, Close Shaver
Shower shaver here, for about 20 years. At first, it was Atra, then disposables, then Sensor, and now DE.
Monday-Friday I shave in the shower. On the weekends I move over to the sink for some pampering. Gives me another reason to look forward to the weekend. Saturday morning shaves are the best!
shower shaving...not me I concur. Taking my time is part of the reason I started wet shaving. Its my time to chill. The shower would seem to be a hurry up kind of thing for me as well.
