Alright Gents, time for your opinions: You are going to be abandoned on an Island all by yourself for a lengthy period of time. You are given a choice to take one razor, one brand of blade, one brand of soap or cream, and one brush, and only one book to read, what would they be?
My abandoned-on-an-Island set-up: Brush: Thäter Silver Zip Nr. 4292 in Cocobolo wood Soap: Kent's Luxurious Shaving Soap Razor: a Straight, and it would be my limited edition 6/8" Wacker Silver Steel, 1/2 hollow grind Book: Larousse Gastronomique
Merkur 34C, Feathers, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Shaving Shack Buccaneer Pure Badger and 'Robot Series' by Isaac Asimov.
Don't plan to be stranded on a desert island. If I was then the question would be a moot point cause no water on a desert island! But if I was stranded on a tropical island then I would go with these: Razor: 1907 Elite GEM Jr SE Blade: Ted Pella PTFE coated SE Soap: Tabac Brush: One of my several Boars After Shave: Clubman Club Complete
Razor: Clix 500 Blade: Derby Cream: TSD Wheat Cream - Iced SubZero Brush: E.J. Badger After Shave: TSD Splash - Iced SubZero Book: Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke
Razor: Fat Handle Tech (not my favorite, but durable for island life!) Blade: Astra Superior Plat. Soap: MWF Brush: C&E Best Badger AS: TSD Bergamot Book: Bible
Gillette Ball End Old open comb NOS British Wilkinson blades J M Fraser's Original s/c Omega Professional boar brush Proraso a/s splash The Bible - Revised Standard Version No moving parts on the Gillette, so there's less to go wrong with it, and the old Wilkies shave better and last longer than anything else I've tried. Fraser's has always been my favourite cream and if I only get one, Fraser's is the biggest tub going. The Omega Professional is my favourite brush, hands down - wouldn't go without it. I thought about taking 4711 eau de cologne instead, but you said aftershave so I stuck with the Proraso Pound for pound there's more comfort and entertainment in the Bible than any book I know of, and the RSV has always been my favourite translation. goshawk

Ha! What a book choice. I am new to wet shaving so some of my answers are limited to the limited things I've tried. Razor: I've only used the the Merkur HD and the Weishi, but I'm absolutely loving the Merkur HD Blades: I've only tried the Wilkinson Sword. They have left me with some nicks and a cut, but last night I had my first nickless shave and no razor burn. I would be happy taking this blade with me. Soap: I'm loving my Proraso with menthol. I've got a couple other soaps, as well as a few much more expensive creams I ordered with the razors (all of which are great) but I like the menthol a lot. Brush: I first purchased a couple cheap bore brushes, and the Wilkinson Sword works well, but I now have a Vulfix 660S Small Super Badger Shaving Brush which I would certainly be taking with me if I had to choose just one. Aftershave: Right now I'd have to simply go with my Glysomed cream, but I'm ordering some from TSD store that I hope will be great. Book: Man oh man! There are too many to choose from. The Bible would be a good choice, both from a religious standpoint and for shear volume of great stories. (The Princess Bride, The Complete Works Shakespeare, something by Grisham: all would be acceptable backups.)
-Gem Push Button Gold (to use the gold plate as a signal reflector) -Gem SS coated blades (for infinite utility uses after they are done with shaving tasks) -Arko Stick (assuming very hard water) -Tweezerman Badger (nothing fancy) -A survival book with star charts and chapters on on edible/medicinal plants. My goal would be to survive so I could live to shave another day.
I's switch the razor for my Vauen Gandalf Churchwarden pipe, the brand of blade for Cheiftain's Islay tobacco, the soap for my Ronson pipe lighter and the brush for pipe cleaners. After all, why shave when you're alone on a stranded island? As far as the book is concerned I'd take the LOTR trilogy (in one big volume) with me.
I hate these -- I've probably answered 6 or 7 in my career, and I bet no two of my posts have anything the same in them. Razor: Merkur Progress Blade: Feather Platinum Soap: AOS Sandalwood Cream: TSD Iced Subzero Brush: Savile Row 3124 Book: Amazon Kindle
