This is too important of a subject to sully up with politics, since the protectors of our freedom are from all sides of the political spectrum. A special "Thank You" to the men and women who are serving in the armed forces today, a tip of the hat, and raise the glass! :eatdrink047 Stay safe and godspeed! To you fine members that have served in the past, a heartfelt "Thank You" for your service to this country! To those that have given the ultimate sacrifice, I bow my head in remembrance, and with a tear in my eye say that words can never express the gratitude that myself, my family, and our nation as a whole owe you. Cover them over with beautiful flowers, Deck them with garlands, those brothers of ours, Lying so silent by night and by day Sleeping the years of their manhood away. Give them the meed they have won in the past; Give them the honors their future forcast; Give them the chaplets they won in the strife; Give them the laurels they lost with their life. ~Will Carleton
Amen! I've been lucky in that those from my family who have served have all returned home. Now, we remember those who did not return.
I appreciate your class Bill, and your sentiments. I served in the Marines. '94-'98. For all my brethren (and sistren :happy102) from all branches, thank you from the bottom of my soles. For all of those fallen, it wasn't in vain, we'll keep the flag flying.
Thank you Bill for posting that beautiful poem. I have the utmost respect for all those in the armed forces. I had one grandfather from each side of the pond and was lucky enough to have both live through WWII. May God watch over all the soldiers, fallen and still in the field as another year goes by.
Each Memorial Day brings renewed feelings of great gratitude to me. There is a World War I monument directly across the street from my house. The local chapter of the American Legion visits the monument annually to honor the fallen vets with a color guard and gun salute followed by the playing of taps by a bugler. It is always a powerful and moving experience for my wife and I to witness from our front porch.
I bow on bended knee in honor of our Heroes, Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines, Coast Guard. I also want to memorialize our LEO's and Firefighters as well. They all combine to keep us safer and provide a better way of life without fear. My deepest Thanks to each and everyone of them, present and past.
It is time we take a moment of silence for those that given their lives for our freedom and peace. A moment o silence for those serving world wide for protection and safe return home.
Amen, Bill. And thanks to all who have served, are serving, or will be serving. Our gratitude and prayers are with you.
Thanks, Bill and Stephen for expressing this more eloquently than most of us ever could. Remembering all those that have served and continue to serve...
"At the grave of a hero we end, not with sorrow at the inevitable loss, but with the contagion of his courage; and with a kind of desperate joy we go back to the fight.'' --Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes (1841-1935) Thanks to those who've served, are serving, and thank God for those who were willing to give all they had.
Amen - I also want to express my thanks, I grew up a military brat and I have many friends that served. Thanks Dad and Grandpa and all the rest of you.
