Once upon a time I ordered Osage Rub from Texas Beauty Supply and saw Marvy Shaving brushes for 89 cents or something and said, "What have I got to lose?" and added it to my order.

Now I'm not advocating this brush as a great buy or anything. In fact quite the opposite. Once I used it there was no question why it was so "affordable". It sluffed bristles literally by the handful and maybe it's just one of my stupid hang ups but I simply cannot stand the feel of a shedded brush bristle stuck to the side of my face in the lather. So anyway, I decided to throw it under the sink while it still had a fair amount of hair left on it. Why I didn't simply chuck it I'll never know. So there it sat for a couple years.

Then came the straight razor revolution. I read that old barbers would periodically lather their strops with Williams to improve drag or something. Since I had purchased my horsehide strop from an antique store I didn't know what was going to come off of it once the soap was applied. Not wanting to ruin one of my good brushes, I whipped out the Marvy. And a good thing, the soap suds came out turd brown and using one of my better brushes would have surely ruined it for future operational use. But Wait! There's more! Being a bald guy my supply of hair for the HHT is pretty limited. Both moustache and chest hair are far to painful to remove. Once again, Marvy to the rescue. I simply pluck a bristle or two from the brush and HHT is complete.

Nice! I like it when something you've given up on turns out to be useful after all!
