I'm happy to have found this site with all its forums and resources. I have decided to try a DE razor at the advanced age of 64, and I hope my experience is a better one than I had 40 years ago. My introduction to shaving for this go around was humorous and instructive. For some reson, I wanted to try a brush and shaving soap as a starter. I paid my $30 (?) for a brush and a bowl of Taylor's shaving soap. I read the instructions for the brush which basically told me to get it wet. Okay...it soaked for 5 minutes in a hot bowl of water. I then tried to lather...nothing, not a drop of lather. Hmmm...read the instructions again and they said to use the brush against the palm of my hand. Still nothing! Well I pondered this problem for 5 minutes. I mean this was not rocket science. Finally, I thought that if I turned the soap over that would make a difference. I certainly did make a difference...I never removed the cellophane!! Welcome to the wonderful world of shaving. At least I had the good sense of not getting a straight razor!
Welcome to TSD! This is the best wet shave board on the planet. Your secret is safe with us; no one outside the inter-webs will ever know you forgot to remove the wrapper.... Of course that doesn't leave too many out of the loop then does it? Ha! Welcome anyway!
Thanks for the welcome Thanks for the warm welcome to the TSD. If my "introduction to shaving" is the worst thing that happens to me, I'll be a lucky man!
Welcome to the Den! Great story!! :happy102 Come often, stay long, share much. There's a great bunch of guys and gals here with some great info to shave, er, share.

Welcome. I am sure you will learn much here, as I have. So you don't feel bad, I will share also. Switched razors to an old one that had been my fathers. I had been wanting to try it and finally got it in the rotation. First pass was super smooth. Second was also going very smooth when I realized I couldn't hear the beard being cut. You guessed it, I forgot to put a blade in it. Paul
Thanks for sharing That was a good story. We've probably all done something like that in our lives even it we won't admit it. Hmmm...this shave is really, really smooth!
There's a bunch of us old geezers here, so you'll be right at home. I enjoy all the various razor types: single edge, double edge, and straights, and have a few of each in my rotation. One nice thing about being an old guy is that our skin is so loose that we can drag it anywhere on our face we need to in order to get it where we can better shave it.:happy102
Welcome to the den. I'm new here as well. I'm exactly 1/2 your age. But I'm no punk kid. I love to learn from others. GREAT STORY! Thanks for sharing.
