I have officially banned the phrase "like a hot knife through butter". In it's place, everyone must use: "like an Astra Superior Platinum through a well prepared beard". Thank you. ....after DE wet shaving for about 3 weeks now I was very disappointed with all the shaves I got from the Derby blades, but I put this down to poor technique and persevered with them. The shaves were close enough, but 'patchy' with quite a few hairs not picked up (WTG, XTG, XTG). Last night it dawned on me that it might be the blade and not my technique and thought what the hell, let me try an other blade. I decided against opening up my feathers, yet, and opened an Astra instead which I put into my Merkur 38C. Wow. Just wow.
Just to clarify, if I use a hot knife to cut a pat of butter off the end of a stick, I should use the "Astra" phrase? Yes, blades do make a difference, don't they?
Great to hear you found a blade that works for ya! Astra SPs and Dorco ST-301s are the only blades I've purchased in bulk. I'm a firm believer in sampler packs, so I knew what I was getting into with the bulk purchases! I'm not disappointed with either blade.
Glad you found a blade that works well for you. I'm also a big Astra SP fan. It's not the only great blade available, but none work better for me and the few that equal the Astra for me cost much more. All that is for my face, I prefer milder blades for head shaving.
Congrats on finding a winning combination...I know I loved the Astra SP and SS's in my Ming-Shi...In that perticular razor I couldn't tell the SP's from the SS's and since the Stainless cost even less, I was in razor heaven...) But now that I think about it...That Ming Shi was the most UNblade sensitive razor I have ever owned...It loved everything, where as ALL my other razors have their favorites...What, may I ask is the razor part of your equation ?
Ok....... I had no idea some blades come as stainless steel and some as platinum (coated?). :ashamed001 I didn't realise Platinum actually meant Platinum... I thought it was just supposed to me a cool sounding name..! The razor pat of my equation is the Merkur 38C 'BarberPole'.
I doubt it really is Platinum since other materials would perform better at lower cost. Likely it just means "highly premium", like a Platinum Master Card.
