Tonight, as I sit here in my athletic shorts on a hot Indiana summer night, I am basking in the glow of my best shave ever!! I owe it all to Ted Pella and whoever makes GEM razors. I shaved with my GEM Junior 1912 with bakelite handle and the above mentioned blades. I must say, I am now smitten with my Junior. I started off expecting a mediocre shave, but wanted to try these new blades I had. I got more than I bargained for! A very, very close shave like none other I have experienced with any DE. A bit of irritation near the adam's apple and everywhere else just perfect!! Definately a DFS, although I didn't go for the ATG finish for the BBS. But I am a very happy camper right now. And that's no BS!!

    Bravo!

It's always a special feeling when you have that sense that you've done something wonderful for yourself! Who knew a shave could do that!

    Great to hear!

S/E's rightfully have a fan base of their own, and many members use both in their rotations.

    Jason,

I am quite heartened by your success with the Gem razor. I have recently acquired three of my own in the past few weeks (yes... guilty of not posting under S&T, bit promise I will :ashamed001): a 1912, a micro-matic and one of undetermined identity:think002. Just got them cleaned up night before last and now just need to get some blades!

OOOH nice. I would start with the 1912, I have a micromatic that is somewhat harsher. At least with personna blades. Haven't tried the pellas in that one. You can pick up some pellas here. I highly recommend them!! The personnas I got from the drugstore were meh. They just kind of dragged. Have fun with your new razors!

You'll find that even the most hardcore straight razor convertees will pick up a Gem SE from time to time. I have a 1912 Gem Jr. with a big fat bakelite handle that looks like a stubby screwdriver that absolutely has never failed to render a fantastic shave. The Micromatic is a bit quirkier and to be honest probably not as consistently reliable as the 1912. If you're looking for an absolute SE orgy, hunt down a lather catcher.
