So, I did a three pass with my KAI Excelia with a fresh Feather Pro blade. I got crazy razor burn! I see some folks who say they get no razor burn with straights. I got zero razor burn with the Fusion I was previously using. I don't want to go back to that for various reasons. Any suggestions?
Give it time. Your face may take some time to get used to another method of shaving. Additional options: 1. Make sure you use VERY light pressure on your face. The weight of the blade on the skin should suffice if the blade is sharp. You basically just use your hand to guide and steady the razor. 2. Don't use an against the grain pass yet. Most of the time, this is where the razor burn is going to come from. Even old barber manuals instructed not to do this pass because it could cause burn and ingrown hairs.
There is also a bit of a difference between a Straight Razor and a SE razor The Kai and the Feather Pro blades are very aggressive in comparison to a well tuned Straight Razor, they need a much flatter angle on the face also.. I have been using a SR for nearly 30 years and the first time I tried a SE with a Feather I almost took off the top layer of skin, it was so different (Not sharper)... They take a bit of practice, just like any other style of shaving to get used to... oh and TAKE YOUR TIME !!!!
Just shaved again with it. I wouldn't say BBS but, I only got 1 small nick and no razor burn! The small weeper was probably from when I cut myself two days ago. Anyway, this was a very comfortable shave! I am very happy with how it turned out! I did two passes instead of three. i also used Noxzema before my COB shaving cream. I did wash it off, but it definitely softened up the hairs! I will be using it again! Thanks for all the replies! I do feel I am getting there and I feel really good about my shave today!
