OK - SWMBO is really getting upset - not a good thing sometimes. The towels in the bathroom are getting bleached out areas on them. Not totally white but lighter than the rest of the towel. This is happening to the hand towels more than the bath towels. She says it started about the same time I got my M-Bomb and Lime SC/AS from TSD. Her theory is that it is the Lime AS. I have been saying it can't be me, but this morning after my shave I dried my hands on my bath towel the same way I do everyday. Well much to my surprise I was drying my hands in the exact same spot that is turning a lighter color. Is there a possibility that it could be me that is doing this? I should mention that my son also started using a Nivea Acne cleansing system at the same time. I keep telling SWMBO it is the boy and not me. Now I wonder.
Always blame the kid! That's why you have one! It's called "The Distributed Blame Theory" Blame enough people and nobody gets into trouble!
Hmmm....it could be an interaction between the acne stuff and the lime. But I dunno, I'm just guessing. You need barber towels.
"Hey honey, you know, our bathroom might need a little freshening up. Why don't you go get a new set of bath and hand towels in a color and pattern you like. I'll keep using these old ratty, bleached out towels for shaving." She gets to go shopping and stops blaming you
Well - it is not really a big deal and yes they do work but I do not make the rules and since I started wet shaving I have had to keep everything pretty tidy in bathroom land. This is just one of those things that I am willing to do to keep my wife happy. I think the worst part is the towels were only a few weeks old when this started happening. Yes - Barber towels is a great idea, I have been wanting to stop by Sally's to get some. Now I can go shopping.
I'll bet it is the acne cream. I developed really bad acne on my upper back when I was about 19, and started putting cream on it. It made the acne a little less severe, but it soon started causing bleached spots on my shirts. The anti-acne cream was not Nivea, but they may have similar ingredients. Never saw any bleached spots on the towels, but that was probably because I washed my hands after applying the cream. Maybe the solution is to get white towels?
+1 on the acne medicine. Especially if it contains benzoyl peroxide. It should be on the label or ingredients. This stuff, like Shaver X mentioned, will bleach anything clothes or towels wise, even says it'll bleach hair some places I have read.
+1 Walmart sells a terrycloth barmop that's perfect for hot towel trestments and after shave clean-up. Cheap and good. goshawk
Barbershop towels? Barber shop towels are just small hand towels that are sized specifically for barber shop use. I do not have any, but I just use small hand towels to accomplish the same thing.
That was the stuff I was thinking of. It has been so long now I forgot the name. From the Wikipedia article on benzoyl peroxide: "In the U. S., the typical concentration for benzoyl peroxide is 2.5% to 10% for both prescription and over the counter preparations that are used in treatment for acne. Higher concentrations are used for hair bleach and teeth whitening. Benzoyl peroxide, like most peroxides, is a powerful bleaching agent. Contact with fabrics or hair can cause permanent color dampening almost immediately. Even secondary contact can cause bleaching. For example, contact with a towel that has been used to wash off benzoyl peroxide-containing hygiene products." Hopefully Billr will be off the hook now.
Just do a spot test with the products in question. see whats really going on. for all you know its your wifes products that are bleaching them. and she turns around and blames it on you.
Hmmm I never thought it could be her stuff. Good idea on the tests - the towels are messed up anyway. I think I will give that a try.
I just noticed the same thing with our towels. However, this change has only started since daughter started using acne wipes and face cleanser.
