Razor: 14/16 Frederick Reynolds Wedge Hollow Point
"Washington The Champion of Liberty" blade etch in Gray Bone
    Pre-Shave Cream: Proraso
Soap: Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood
    Mug: Ceramic Clipper
    Scuttle: RAB Ceramic
    Brush: Medium Badger
    ASB: Nivea Replenishing
Aftershave: Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum

Great shave with the FR Washington Wedge as always. I love this razor and it's the smoothest shaver I have. I'm not sure if it's smoothness influenced the performance of the Ogallala SS but, for the first time this morning since I started these observations I got the slight feel of cushion. The Williams (Tallow based), MWF (lanolin based) did not have the soft feel on the skin when the razor was moving across it. I wouldn't say the Ogallala (oil based) had a lot of slide or glide but, there was a distinct difference in the feel of the razor on the skin that I'm assuming is the elusive cushion. The comparisons that I'm doing have helped me to understand the mechanics of the different soaps (and later will be the creams) and how each are unique in their own way. Obviously these are my favorites because I have them in my rotation and I like them for their individual performance factors. Ogallala SS is a great fav of mine and has demonstrated the most cushion of all the soaps so far.
Have a great day today Gentlemen and enjoy your shaves! :happy005

    Razor: Merkur Futur
    Blade: Super Iridium
    Brush: Vulfix 2234 Super
    Cream: TOBS Lavender
A/S: Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel, Pashana

A great shave this rainy morning. The Futur is a "dream machine" when it comes to shaving. The Thayer's WH/Pashana combo provided a very nice finish with none of the stickiness experienced yesterday. Note to self: If planning to use a balm, use regular witch hazel--not Thayer's. Not that there is anything wrong with Thayer's, but apparently one or more of the additives (or maybe the reduced alcohol content) might not totally agree with balms. Admittedly, this is based on the use of only one balm so far--Pre de Provence--but I will investigate this theory further with other balms. I wonder what other Thayer's users have experienced.

Friday (3 days to training camp)

Prep: Hot shower, hand strop blade
    Hot coffee: Starbucks French Roast
Soap: Muhle Sandalwood + 3 drops M Bomb
    Brush: The Dridecker
    Razor: 1961 Fatboy @ 6
Blade: ASR Platinum Chrome, day 5, 3+ passes
Post: Cold water rinse, RazoRock, ice water splash, Brut ASB, Brut AS
    'Stache Wax: Firehouse Wacky Tacky

    Shave Rating: 5 Blades

A very good shave. 4 or 5? 4 or 5? I debated. You see the score. Only because it's been my best shave of the week.

I'm sooooooo ready for the weekend.

    Friday's shave

    • Gillette red tip superspeed
    • Shark super chrome (3)
    • home mentholated TSD Monkey Farts SS
    • The Dridecker
    • cold water splash

Aren't blades weird? The exact same blade in two different razors and one lasts a few days longer than the other. 3 days is all the blade lasted in my Merkur HD and day 3 in my red tip is just as smooth as when I loaded the blade. Blades have to be the biggest variable in this whole equation.

Forgot to post my shave from last night:
Face: Fat Handle Tech w/Crystal d2
    Head: Fatboy w/Dorco 301 d2
    Knotty Erlenmeyer
Frankensoap (mostly TSD Signature which I just added to the tin)
    Alum
    TSD Bourbon Vanilla

After adding TSD soap remains to the franken soap it made a strange feeling lather, almost lumpy. But, the shave was good. The scent wasn't doing it for me, so I overpowered the faint scent left from the lather by using the BV.

    • TOBS Lavender
    • Old Stinky (Parker badger)
    • Alum block
    • Agua Lavanda Puig Splash (as aftershave)
    • Agua Lavanda Puig Eau de Cologne

Supposedly Lavanda Puig was a favorite of Ol' Blue Eyes.

The Alum Block let me know I won't get another shave out of this blade. Still, 5 shaves out of a ten cent blade... I'm not complaining. :D

Shave Of The Day - July 21st

Skipped my shave Tuesday, as I was looking forward to trying out the Futur I snagged from the B/S/T forum, and wanted to have plenty of whiskers for it to work with.

Shave Of The Day - July 22nd

    • TSD Iced SubZero Preshave Balm
    • Hot Shower
    • E.J. Badger Brush
    • Feats of Clay Scuttle
    • TSD Wheat Cream - Monkey Farts Scent - with 3 drops [IMG]
    • Merkur Futur (1.5)
    • Derby Blade - Day 1
    • Thayers Witch Hazel/Osage Rub Mix
    • TSD A/S Splash - 2X Iced Monkey Farts Scent - :freezing :freezing :freezing
    • [IMG]

As per usual whenever a new razor is being tried out, I reach for the TSD Wheat cream, and as usual it didn't disappoint.

Despite its large size there is great balance on this razor, and like others have said, a very unique audible experience.

Worked pretty well for the first go around, little to no irritation, but I think I'll bump it up a notch for Friday.

Shave Of The Day - July 23rd

    • TSD Iced SubZero Preshave Balm
    • Hot Shower
    • E.J. Badger Brush
    • Feats of Clay Scuttle
    • Connaught Luxury Shaving Cream - Oakmoss Scent
    • Merkur Futur (2.0)
    • Derby Blade - Day 2
    • Thayers Witch Hazel/Osage Rub Mix
    • TSD A/S Splash - 2X Iced English Fern Scent - :freezing :freezing :freezing
    • [IMG]

The bump up to 2 on the Futur worked well, add to that the great Connaught cream/TSD English Fern combo, and it ranked as a fantastic 5 blade shave today!

OK for me this is my shave of the week. I am currently on a 12 day gig for work. Some of you may remember from my post about shaving while camping.

    So here goes...

Brush = Col. Conks pure badger
    Soap = Arko shave stick
    Razor = black handled Tech
Blade = Wally World Persona's ( I figured I was ruffing it anyway)
AS = Aqua Velva Iced Blue

I have to say that the persona's have surprised me. I am on Day 5 so far and it is giving me a great shave!

Here is my pic. This was taken at Cape Flattery. I was able to talk my boss into giving me a couple extra hours to come to the main event tent on my Birthday. So that morning (Thursday) took some really hot water and put it in a thermos and took my shave gear and a towel and hiked up to the look out at Cape Flattery. (the furthest northwest corner of the continental USA.)
Soaked my brush and part of the towel and applied the hot towel to my face and then rubbed on the shave stick and lathered it up for three passes. I got some strange looks from some other visiter's but the shave was fantastic. I wish I had a better pic but the camera I have is giving up the ghost.

    Musgo Cream
    Penworks silvertip
Schick G6 injector with NOS Pal stainless blade.

I had my doubts about these blades, which came as part of an eBay lot of shaving items. This one worked just fine, about the same as the Pellas and Schicks I have been using.
