    OK so I decided to wait one day before posting about my first shave! My "kit" was completed yesterday night and I decided to jump right in. I had originally thought that shave technique was going to be the hardest thing. To my dismay I had a difficult time with building a solid lather :confused:. I found out today after many practice rounds that I was conservative in water usage while trying to build a good lather. Yesterday I squeezed water out of the brush thinking that it would have too much water. The lather was very weak but I went ahead and used it for a shave. I remembered from all the post "DON'T use pressure"!! I let the weight of the Merkur do all the work. I like the fact that it doesn't give me this crazy close shave that burns. No burning at all and mid day today I noticed this very nice 5 o'clock shadow! My hair is coming out very uniformly! With modern day methods I would notice "patches" where some parts of my skin had a super close shave and others not (I guess from all the pulling and hacking that new razors do). This would cause major irritation. Also refined my lather skills. I let the water drain from the brush (not squeezing out the excess) and left a little bit of water on my lathering bowl. By doing this several times I was able to get a really good lather and now am looking forward to tomorrows shave!! :happy088 Thank you all for all the great information I can find here!!

    Fine looking kit! :happy088

    Congrats on the first shave! Sounds like you have the lather zeroed in now, so the shaves should just get better from here on out.

    Ah, the lather question! Yep, you have addressed it and are making steady progress. :cool:

    Wait till you go for more brushes, and soaps, and creams! ;) It's an ongoing thing and I am assured by resident mentors here that there is no "good" or "bad". There is what works for you and you'll find what doesn't.

    Enjoy the trip! ::git

    I know I know! At first I was like "What in the world" but it smells great and that was TSDQS! I ordered four different soaps lastnight so I should expect them soon!
