I am a big fan of and use mostly older heavy sheffield's. Occasionally i see one with the etching's "fine india steel". Can someone please tell me what the meaning of this is? Could it be like "silver steel", or "magnetic steel"? Thank you
I can't answer in the for sure positive on this one ... But I think you are on the right track with the different types of steel, it was probably a slight tweak in the recipe or the tempering and they gave it a name.. Just look at Gillette and Shick now days, with how they re-name things by just adding a strip of moisturizer to the razor... :happy102
considering the Brit's had been inn ' india ' for such a long time I thought perhap's they'd set up a foundry and produced some fine steel. Thanks you gssixgun for the reply,
If you look up online, India is well known for it's crucible steel which is used in the production of fine tools. In fact they were some of the early pioneers of high carbon steel. However due to the fact that razors were stamped with their place of origin, if it says Sheffield anywhere else on the razor then I would assume that it's a piece of British steel. However I am by no means an expert
W&B, Bangalore I will be on the lookout for a Wade&Butcher made in Delhi with "fine India Steel". Thankseek:
