I was in Nordstrom's perusing their little stock of AoS, and the sales woman suggested a new product line. It was called Jack Black. Not too badly priced, seemed decent. This Jack Black is not the comedian/actor, I've no idea who he is, if he's a real person. Have any of you tried this line? How was it?

Yes, comparable to other brands sold in the high end shops (except Art of Shaving)

Comparable to Kheils, Sharps, Anthony Logistics etc....

Not bad stuff, get some FREE samples and see for yourself.

I have several Jack Black Products-all of which I like. I particularly like
the pre-shave. It's called "Beard Lube." It's not very greasy like many of them. The shaving cream is very nice (overpriced for what it is but good stuff).
I also have the cooling gel-post shave. It's clear and feels like you're putting shampoo on your face, but ends up making your face feel very smooth. There's just a hint of menthol in it so it's probably not adequate for Menthol Monday.

I'll look into getting free samples. Never did think of that!

Isn't most of that high end stuff overpriced for what it is? :) Would you say it was lower quality than AoS? I'm usually so set in my ways and soap and cream are things I haven't tried much of, including AoS. I would like to order samples from the store, but the 6 pack says sold out. Ah well.

Dslazar9: Do you find that the Beard Lube makes much of a difference? I know this will be a YMMV situation, but it could be that a little oil or such will make it easier on my neck. Just don't know if that stuff is really worth the scratch.

Yes they pretty much are over priced but the AoS cream is a must try and well it is not too expensive comparing it to DR Harris and the like.

But then again you could probably get the same shave out of Erasmic

I've only tried the lip balm and aftershave gel. I loved both I plan on trying the beard lube. This shop called Mertz Apothecary in Chicago runs a website store also, called Smallflower. Last time I compared jack black products they had some of the best prices. http://www.smallflower.com/search/jack black beard lube
Also they did a video review of some shaving products and they raved about beard lube. I also read somewhere that in some big blind test, somewhere around 7 out of 10 shavers preferred it. But who knows. They were using it not as a pre-shave but as a brushless cream. I'm curious to see what true shavers have to say about it.

I haven't heard of Jack Black but if a AOS sales person recommended it should be pretty good.

Have tried the Jack Black Shave Cream and I find it very good, although I generally prefer shave soaps. And my shave brush in daily use is the Jack Black Pure Performance brush, which does a great job on soaps, IMO! Solid Quality, just a bit on the pricey side. Oh well. There are worst ways to spend money... :D

It's a pretty good line of men's care products...the Triple Cushion Shave Cream is supposed to be great and provide a smoother shave than MWF. A little on the expensive side for some, however.

Jack Black has been around for many years. I wouldn't consider it a new brand as every department store has this stuff.

I have tried their Beard Lube. Its supposed to be a preshave oil, shave gel, and balm all in one.

It's a cool idea to save steps, but I think the beard lube felt too greasy for me to use. I still have half of the tube left under my sink, and it will probably stay there.
