Ok... I tried one of my SE's tonight.
All I can say is... Wow.
I got a couple of weepers, but overall the results were smooth and the shave was pretty easy.
Definitely easier than 10 passes with the cartridge to just get sort of smooth.

    Another question...
Lotions, aftershave or otherwise, any recommendations?

Is it obsessive that I can't stand having non-smooth spots on my head when I'm done shaving?
I've learned to live with the areas of my face that still feel a little rough when I run my fingers against the grain.
    My head...not so much. :happy102

I'm right there with you. I shave my head every night, and when I finish I run my hand over my scalp to make sure there is no stubble anywhere. I re-shave any spots I find even slightly rough because, like you, I cannot tolerate anything but a perfectly slick head after a noggin shave.

I use an Alum block after each head shave. I've also found that Head Lube high gloss by headblade is a nice lotion to really bring out the shine. If you occasionally suffer from bumps Clear Head by headblade works wonders. Also a good product is Avon's aftershave conditioner which will leave the noggin soft and silky with just a little bit of gloss.

All that is good, though for those of us who don't like a glossy head using whatever we put on our face works just fine. I'm partial to TSD splashes, but everyone needs to find what work for his/her own skin.

I have been shaving my head for.... over 12yrs now.. I used to always use my Gillette mach 3 in the shower, but started using a DE last week.. So far I think it's easier thand shaving my face.... I use a Edwin Jagger DE89LBL and so far I love it.

I've been shaving my head for a lot of years, and it was not until reading this thread that I discovered that some men actually prefer a shiny noggin. I've always looked for ways to prevent scalp shine as much as possible. Go figure. Different strokes for different folks, I reckon.

Head Lube also comes in a matte finish to help keep the shine under control. :D It's a good product for the summer as you can get it in a SPF 30.

I'll get some and try it out. Thanks for the tip, I really appreciate it.

I normally use a facial moisturizer with sunscreen in the summer. Unless I'm wearing a hat - so really most days I don't use liquid sunscreen on my head.

One of the good cart, but no longer with us is the Personna Atra on a Headblade. I tried a Fusion Pro Glide I got for free and I killed it before the week was over.
The only other blade I tried was the Sensor 3 cart on it and it was good, but not for the price and the generic ones really suck.

I've been going DE the last few shaves. The Tech was almost a little too mild to give me the kind of shave I want.
I'm now using a Fatboy on ~6 and getting decent results with no noticeable irritation or nicks.

Congrats on the d/e head shave success. IMHO shaving the head is easier than shaving the face. Now for a real challenge, you need to progress up to st8's. :D

I think about it sometimes, but I keep choking on all that upkeep and the learning curve.

...and the fact that I wouldn't be content with just my Geneva... I'd need the Bergischer Lowe, a Wade Butcher cleaver, a half dozen Dubl Ducks, a unicorn leather strop...
    You see my problem?

:sihns011 Honestly, I rode the brakes for months before I finally gave in. The maintenance piece and indeed the learning curve aren't that big a deal. The SRAD did eventually creep up on me though :D

Eventually though, I think I'll have to stop buying razors and move onto another AD. I've already got more pipes than I need or care to admit. However, I've been hard eyeballing antique lighters of late. The insanity continues :signs136
