Hi, i heard some shavers use to add some glycerin in their soaps. Does somebody here do that? And if, what experiences and results do you have? Is it a good advice for the winter season, because to prevent of a dry out skin?
I use it daily, and I have some to which I've added menthol that I use when I want a little extra chill. I add a little glycerin regardless of whether I'm using soap, cream, or stick. I find that it adds a little extra silkiness to the shave. Of course, it may just be my imagination; but, in the end, that's all that matters.
I have heard that if you add too much it can mess up the lather. Not sure but I know I heard that somewhere.
True. Glycerin doesn't lather. So, if you throw off the balance of lathering soap/cream vs glycerin it will only hurt your lather. Same as adding too much water basically.
I always add 4 drops to my (soap) lather. I have found if you add much more, it will make it difficult to produce a rich lather. I don't often use creams so I can't say what it does here but I would imagine a few drops adds some additional "glide" to your shave.
Exactly. That's why most soaps add it in, makes things move around better. Adding more helps a ton, especially for those of us with wussy skin. I make Uberlather and add 6-8 drops along with 1 drop of peppermint oil and ~4 drops of eucalyptus (more if I feel especially stuffy in the morning). The other day I forgot to add the glycerin. It was definitely noticeable, not painful though. The razor simply didn't move as smoothly and nicely as normal.
I've had great success adding a dollop of Corn Huskers when I lather up some Williams. Makes Williams quite decadent, if you can imagine such a thing. H
Tried it again tonight and it does seem to help a bit. I have fairly hard water so a little extra help is always appreciated.
