I thought I would finally get around to posting up my impressions of the Irisch Moos stick, since I have been using it for a few weeks now.

Initially prices were outright ridiculous for the stick, and I too got reamed however now that just about every major shaving supplier is carrying them, things are not so bad.

The two things I love about this stick: the scent and the luxurious lather it produces, with very little effort.

When I first twisted the cap off, the scent was beyond over powering for me, but it has calmed down quite a bit.

Scent wise, the best I could explain of it would be a combination of Brut and Irish Springs soap, other than that I can't quite explain.

The lather, of any other stick I currently own, nothing explodes as fast and it takes very little product, actually needing more water than you would expect, its quite marvelous. I find it to be more like a cream in that for me, its very cushioning yet slick it does as mentioned like water, or it will dry out.

There's really only two things I don't like about this stick: size, its huge and the fact for as luxurious the lather is, the soap doesn't actually do much for my face, its not really moisturizing nor drying, its just soap...

Here are a couple pictures, for those of you who don't own sticks, or are interested to see how they compare widths *Not Current Weights* side by side from largest to smallest.

From left to right: Irisch Moos, Arko, Valobra, Speick.

Now I actually like the Palmolive stick better, its not as expensive, smells similar and works almost as good, but its easier to use.

    Really?...

I found that because of the larger surface area on the IM stick, it allowed for much faster and easier application and lathering was a dream.

Palmolive I feel I have to rub almost violently to get even similar coverage with.

Both products, no less, provide above satisfactory results and I love and stock them both. (Actually, i'm due for an IM order).

The scent of the IM and Palmolive are similar?

I haven't tried the IM, but not overly fond of the Palmolive scent.

Based on that would you avoid the IM products?

I've got the Irisch Moos, Palmolive, Wilkinson, Arko and La Toja sticks. I like them all, but for me, the best performer is the Wilkinson with the La Toja being my favorite scent. Now I need to get the La Toja cream to super lather.

I find the Irisch Moos and Palmolive sticks are both excellent, but they have 2 completely different scents.

    I guess they're similar...

Palmolive smells a little cheaper, cleaner, and lighter.

IM smells more irish springs, but very refined. Irish springs from the store smells like a detergent. IM smells like how Irish springs SHOULD.

I like the smell of IM and Palmolive, each for their own type.

This is just my opinion, but I find the Irisch Moos stick has a very classy and refined scent. The Palmolive stick has a clean and soapy scent.

You're probably more dead on than me. I haven't used an IM stick in a few months so maybe my smeller is off.

I just sniffed the two, but to my nose they both smell similar, Palmolive is lighter and slightly sweeter, IM is just strong.

After a lengthy hiatus from using soaps I decided it was time to revisit them the other day. I kicked things off w/ IM. I don't really get into the whole face lathering/shave stick thing so I milled mine down into a bowl. With a nice wet brush the soap paste explodes immediately. Whipping generates a nice thick lather that shaves excellent. I really like this soap and to me the scent is very "soapy". Like a scented bath soap I guess. Kind of outdoorsy if that means anything. Anyway it's a triple milled, non-glycerin hard soap which works best for me. I got in on the group buy a couple years ago when it wasn't easy to come by. If it is in fact sold everywhere now I recommend picking one up if you're looking to expand your soap collection.

One of my favorite shave soaps. The scent is intense, but very pleasing. You definitely get the Irish Spring vibe, but its a little more refined. I find it a sharper scent than Palmolive, but I can see a few similarities.

The lather is frankly superb. I prefer to bowl lather most soaps, and have milled quite a few sticks into containers, but the IM works so well I've left it in its stick form. I have no problem producing plenty of lather from a few swipes of the stick on my face.

Does anyone here us the AS or Cologne ? How close is it to the scent of the shave stick ?

I really don't find the Irisch Moos scent that similar to Irish Spring.

It's not dead on, of course ...but I think it's a similar type of smell. IS is a little sweeter and tamer ... IM has a bigger bite and is a tad more intense.

If it wasn't Menthol Monday tomorrow, I'd probably shave with the Irisch Moos stick just to enjoy that scent--it's so nice.

Used mine yesterday, and I gotta say it's always better than I remember. Seems Like such a thin coat on your beard, but then I swear there's enough lather left in the brush to go as many passes as anyone could need. Yesterday was only a 2 pass, but I've done 4 with it and still had tons of lather left over. To me it does smell a bit like the Palmolive and Irish Spring, but in a way that this is the original and those are pale copies.
