My hairdresser advised me tondeo blades ...

Discussion in 'Safety Razors' started by arizona dreams, Oct 1, 2010.

  1. Speaking today with my barber about the speech blades advised me to try the tondeo, he always used, saying they are the best. What intrigued me, I'll just 'a chance' buy 'a sample to test, but' I noticed that on this forum do not talk much about these blades, or at least I did not find recent threads on this. Why? In Italy, 100 of these blades cost between 50 and 60 euros. Enormity '! Those of you who has tried and how did you find us? Thanks! [IMG]

  3. Blades are made in germany, and descriptions found in the internet it says: The TCR Tondeo blades are suitable for both shaving and for cutting hair. Cutting corners for optimal durability and higher accuracy. Construction of special steel wok processing, steel and glass. Treatment with chromium nitrate with a top layer of teflon for a perfect sliding. Easy to split in two for use.

If you look at the way the center of the blade is cut out, you will notice this is not a standard DE blade. I don't know that this blade would fit in many of our standard DE razors.

I believe there are a few "shavette" style razors out there that will use these blades, when snapped in half.

Ask your barber what razor can use this blade. It certainly has to be different than the normal de's we are very familiar with. The price also seems to be expensive compared to mainstream brand blades.

  6. He uses them to open the cut-throat razor, but 'certainly can be used also for the safety razor!

The info I can find is these blades are sold in barber supply shops and are used for cut throat and hair shaper razors. The problem with using these blades in a double edge razor made by Gillette, Merkur, EJ or any brand I know of is the cut out in the center of the blade is not shaped properly to fit in any of these razors. I would hate for you to spend a lot of money for something you could not use. So before you do that you need more research.

as far as DEs they look like they would work in a TTO that has a straight center bar and maybe the futur but not much else

I believe those are longer than normal DE blades. I have a Dovo shavette and there is a separate blade holder that takes the tondeo blades. I haven't used them myself so I can't comment on how well they work.

    P.S. my first post

Even the TTO razors have a center post that looks to big to fit in the slot in the blade. I don't know about the Futur or any other Merkur as I don't use them. Also if they are longer as gurgly believes they may be they wouldn't fit. I find this is an interesting discussion. I wish I had one of the blades to see it for myself.
