I could use some help with this one, especially from the ladies around. My fiancee has been mentioning she would like to start DE shaving. She's not overly sensitive or anything, she uses cheapo disposables at the moment! Can anyone recommend a good razor for her? I'm thinking something with a long handle like the Krona to make the reach easier. This will also open up other purchase options for me as I can give her the 100 Red Israeli Personnas I will never use again after discovering the joys of Feathers. She'll have plenty of blades and a new razor so maybe I won't get the "You're buying more stuff, especially when you have 100 blades you just purchased and refuse to use? Reaaallllyyy..." look.
Lady Gillette would be my first suggestion. You can find them easy enough and that is what they were built for.
You could always go with the popular Lady Gillette model, available in Blue, Champagne, or Pink colors.
She would like that! I´ve never seen one for sale, but then I´ve never really looked either. I´ll start keeping an eye out now.
There are usually several on da bay. If you happen to be in the US i have one i would be happy to loan you to try out before you buy one. It's ugly as home made sin and has been in my family for the last 30 years I know of , and still shaves great.
I have been using a DE almost as long as Jeff has, as soon as he discovered wet shaving he roped me into the habit. This way he didn't feel so bad about buying ALL the stuff for him. I have both the blue and the pink Lady Gillette. I really like them, maybe the pink one more, because it's pink. Somehow the color enhances the shave . I also have a Weishi gunmetal that I swiped as soon as Jeff took it out of the box, it's a nice mild shave, especially with the Dorco 301's. When I want a more aggressive shave, I go for the Schick Injector with the bone handle, Personna blades work best for me. From time to time Jeff will offer me a Feather blade, that's a damn fine shave when placed in the Lady Gillette. Also, I like the stiffer brushes, they help to exfoliate my legs so I don't have to do double work. My Sabi badger is perfect. And a must have for shaving in the shower is a rubber mug for my soap. I have already broken two plastic ones from them falling in the shower (one was Jeff's favorite purple coffee cup ). I like my Green Marvy mug, just wish it came in a different color! Long winded I know, but it took me awhile to get all the right tools in place. Hope this helps!
There's a pink one on the bay right now. I just jacked up the price $15. How much do these razors go for?
They can go through the roof. The pink ones are hard to come by cheaply. But look at it this way; if you are willing to spend $50.00 on a new razor, why not $50.00 on a vintage razor that is hard to find somethimes?
I would let her use your Super Speed first just to see if she likes shaving with a DE before you buy one. The Lady Gillette I think would pretty close to the same shave as the Super Speed.
:happy096 Way to keep the AD's in the family! Shawna, have you ever read about the Wilkinson Sticky razor?
For what it's worth, my mom (80) has always used a red tip, usually with one of my dad's used blades. Some how, the thought of it scares the stuffing out of me! h
Just a suggestion, but the handle material really would make it a nice shower shaver. I'm just here to help!
