I should start by saying that I haven't purchased any new shave gear for about four years (aside from blades and some inexpensive soaps). It's not that I don't want to but I'm frugal by nature and as a married father of two children my allotment of the family's resources is limited to a mere subsistence level. Be that as it may, I've decided that I can treat myself to a new brush to complement my existing stable. My current go to brushes are the Omega 48, Simpson Special Pure, and Savile Row 3320. These cover all the bases but I have a hankering for another good face latherer so I'm going to get one. Here's what I'm thinking of as choices: 1. Smaller Omega ( lots of choices here) 2. Semogue 1520 or 1460 ( love the "Excelsior" handles) 3. Slightly larger Simpson Pure (Beaufort 2 or 3, Eagle 1 or 2, Duke maybe) Right now I'm leaning toward the Semogues. Any thoughts?
I really like my Omega 10051 that I got from Gary over at Shoebox: http://www.shoeboxshaveshop.com/omega-10051--chunky-chub--available-in-three-c10051.html I can't speak to the rest of the brushes you listed though.
I'm not a huge fan of the Simpson Pure knots. I have a Beaufort, that spends most of its time in my travel kit. Out of the choices you listed, I would probably go with one of the Omega brushes. The beechwood boar is pretty darn nice.
After mulling this over I think I'll get both a Semogue and an Omega. I think the Semogue 1438 looks about right for me. For the Omega I'm leaning toward the 10005 or 10065/10066 but I'll get the Semogue first and go from there. Thanks for the replies.
