I know that my mom got me the moss scuttle for christmas and I was wondering how you clean the inside of the scuttle that holds the water as in how would you clean mineral deposits lime and or rust deposits if you had hard water ? Also could some one that has a moss scuttle either post or PM me a picture of the outside bottom of the scuttle? I've seen a ton of pictures of the moss but not the bottom.
Any of you that have a moss scuttle could I ask you to take a picture of the outside bottom of your scuttle and either post it here or send it to me in a PM I have seen a lot of pictures of the moss scuttle but never the bottom
Easy, (relatively) cheap solution My solution to that problem was to go to a local potter and have him make a two-piece scuttle. There's the larger bottom part (the reservoir) and the smaller top part (the lather place). I have no problem at all keeping the reservoir clean, since I can just take them apart. It was a custom job, and cost me $30 or so in a color, size and shape of my choice. Phil
Here's a pic of the bottom. Cleaning the inside has never occurred to me . If I can't smell it or see it I am not curious about it. The makers of the Georgetown scuttle said that they did not see that as a problem either but said if one was concerned just to swish some bleach and water around the inside. As a previous poster said CLR would be the solution though.
I think I can say I have had a Moss scuttle longer than anyone else! Despite living in a hard water area, there has never been any need to clean the inside of the water jacket - the theory behind this being that 'what the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve over'. If you are planning to drink the contents of the outer water jacket, I agree you have a valid concern! I asked Sally Bonnyman to ensure the two parts were stuck together, as I thought that if they were separate they would make a noise and rotate one inside the other on brush swirling. I believe all the many copycat variations I have been shown by Sally follow the same pattern of fixed inner and outer parts. I hope you enjoy your present! Chris
