You can lather like you are doing, just only make a few circles around your soap just to pick up a little soap. Then circle and swirl the brush on your face. Face lathering is great for me.
I had trouble lathering as well. I have a puck of Col. Conks and another from Classic Shaving and when i fist started wet shaving, all I got were suds. I would swish my brush for a good ten seconds and then build my lather in my bowl, but I never got the rich, creamy lather that I saw in the tutorials on the web. Well, I read something on here that suggested with shaving soap, you need more water than a shaving cream. Bam, that was what I needed. Yesterday, i finally got that nice, creamy lather I was hoping for but never achieved.
I like face lathering, too. But, I would be missing out on the hot lather produced in my shave bowl. That's a nice touch.
