Couldn't shave every day with my fusion or quattro. My skin is phenomenally healthy now and I shave every day with my DE.. even though the need is significantly less and hardly justifiable with the little hair that I have by the next day nowadays with my DE. Sometimes I do it just because I can't go a day without using my new products or the goodies calling my name in the bathroom.
I shave every other or every 3 days, not because of irritation but i just don't need to, I don't need to be shaven for work but DE shaving does get me a much closer shave and much less irritation compared to when I used an M3.
Personally for me the shaving was a war for maybe 15 years with blood and 'victims'. I don't know why but my Mach3 and can of Nivea gel always won the battle. So I tried to save as seldom as it was possible - 1 time at 2-3 days. When my 30th birthday hit me I decided to do something and begun from surfing the net... I got Merkur Classic 23C and a tube of Arko sensitive cream. And a cheap boar brush also. It takes about a month from me to learn the skill. Now, 1 year later, I shave every day and enjoy it! There are some days when I shave twice a day to have my face smooth and soft tonight ;-). I'm still learning but now it's more fun and hobby. I hope your situation will be the same and you will start enjoying your shaves after some learning curve and period of adaptation for your skin. Good luck!
In my work, I need to look professional so I always shave Monday through Friday. I may give my face a day off on either Saturday or Sunday, if I am not doing anything special. If I do something on Saturday night, I will often hold off on shaving until just before I go out and most times that shave will get me through until Monday morning
I have been moving closer and closer to everyday shaving. In fact, now that I switched to a DE and quality soaps/creams, I'm shaving about 5-6 times a week. I have learned to really work on my technique and it's helping tremendously....especially using multiple passes. I used to try to get everything in one rough pass where now I take my time and slowly work away at the hairs until I get the quality of shave I'm looking for
practicaly every day since I was 15 (40 years ago) because that's what the Chief (my Dad) told me to do. have only enjoyed the last 2 months of it though.
Sounds odd compared to everybody else but I found out that my ideal shaving frequency is every 36 hours. If I shave too early, I can't get a really close shave because my ingrowns haven't erupted yet. I can't shave any later than that simply because that's the longest I can go without the stuff, like a drug addict almost : ) I am a newbie in traditional shaving though, I think in time I will be able to increase my frequency to every 24 hours. I too tried to shave as few times as possible in my electric razor or multi-blade+canned goo days.
Honestly I wish I could shave more than once a day. I enjoy the experience of the Wet Shave so much sometimes I daydream about going home and lathering up again. But I certainly don't want my bread to grow any faster to accomodate that! Beign in the military I have to shave every day. My beard grows just fast enough now that I can't skip a day. I used to be able to skip a day in college, but only if I was in a hurry and I had to.
So... you still haven't found the fun of shaving? It's still a "have to", not a "get to"? So no shaving on the weekends? I feel so sorry for you, man. Stick around here for a while. Take the advice of the great folks 'round here. Dabble into some of the wide variety of brushes, soaps, creams, blades, razors, aftershaves and balms others are using. Before you know it, you'll be wishing you could shave twice a day!
+1 Steve! I shave everyday not because I need to (which I feel I do) but because I WANT to. I look forward to what I will be using and which razor etc. the day before. It's the equivalent of a great daily Cigar (which I don't do anymore for obvious reasons) or a great Coffee or glass of Sherry (which I still enjoy now and then) in other words it's a part of my daily life that I look forward to and totally enjoy. I haven't missed more that two days in two years and that was due to travel schedules.
Since I've now retired I know shave every other day. I have no place special to be so I can afford to let my beard grow a little. When I do get to shave this makes the experience all the more pleasurable.
Sometimes I skip a day for a variety of reasons (not often, but it happens). When it does, it always makes me want to get back to it all the sooner.
"Shave every day, and you'll always look keen!" I try to shave every day, but I often just don't have time. Rather than compromise on a DFS, I prefer to skip. So I shave two or three times a week. Welcome to The Shave Den! Many happy shaves to you!
I shave every day because I have to for my job. wet shaving with a DE has made this possible and enjoyable. however I really only need to shave every 36 hours and not as often as every day I find with proper post shave I can shave as often as I want.
Once upon a time I had to shave daily for my job. Alas those were the dark days before I knew how horribly I was screwing up something that could actually be quite enjoyable. Back then I missed shaving whenever I thought I could get away with it (weekends, leave, in the woods, etc.) when I retired, I went a good two years not shaving at all. I sported a beard and ran the clippers through it periodically so as not to look like Karl Marx or Bobo the homeless man. These days though, I would no more consider missing my morning shave than missing my dinner.
