I average 3 to 4 shaves with most blades. Feathers on the other hand will give me 6 or sometimes as much as 8 if I push it. As far as post shave clean up I will disassemble the razor and blot dry the blade on a paper towel. I then store my razors in a "Bed,Bath, and Beyond" chrome toothbrush holder.
3-4 shaves/blade I rinse the razor, shake it a few times, and put it on the shelf. I just don't muck with my blades very much. I've played around with hand-stropping but figure the blades are so cheap it's not worth my time for an extra shave or two. I also got a DE razor honer that my father-n-law found. I think it actually works, but again not worth my time. I'd rather spend that extra time preparing my face and taking my time shaving. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.
Ditto. I do the same thing as Steve but I can get 14 shaves from a Gillette 7 O'Clock yellow SE blade.
Checking back in, getting 4ish shaves per blade now that my lathering has improved some more. It's certainly more than I ever got from a fusion cartridge, and even the feathers treat my face more nicely than they did. Of the blades I've tried, current ranking from best to worst is: Gillette 7oClock sharp edge (close and smooth) persona red (not as close, but most comforable) feathers ( learning to use, lots of irritation the first time, but close) derby (first ones I tried, beaten on all counts by the persona) couldn't use these two at all, actively painful: dorco st 300 crystal platinum have yet to try: merkur super platinum astra superior platinum bic chrome platinum
"It feels like the first time ..." Thanks to Lou Graham & Foreigner for the inspiration for the title. So I read LeisureGuy's book, confirmed a few things here and a few other spots online. Ordered and waited .... somewhat impatiently. Sound familiar to anyone ? Everything finally arrive .... except the razor. Grrrrrr .... But today was the day. I have to tell you, I was excited and nervous. I had a mental picture of the guy who was shaving in the lavatory in the Airplane movie. He had more blood and toilet paper than ... well, let's just say he had a LOT of blood and toilet paper. Then he splashed himself with aftershave and screamed bloody murder. Happily, that's not how this story goes. So I was patient, let the weight of my shiny new Edwin Jagger DE89LBL do the cutting and slowly took off levels of growth. Did I mention excited and nervous ? I can't tell if it was the heat of the bathroom post-shower or nerves that had my forehead sweating. After 3 passes and heavy re-lathering, the only damage I did was the slightest of nicks around my chin, where my growth is most dense. Funny thing is, I never even felt it. A quick roll of My Nik Is Sealed and we're good to go. Considering I had 3 days growth, the rowing was slow. The result was an extremely smooth shave. Happily, there isn't a whole lot to improve upon. For the record, I used the Derby blades that came with it (only because I read they're pretty forgiving) and The Gentlemen's Refinery Standard Shave Cream. One shave and I'm officially converted. :happy036 Thanks to everyone that's already posted the successes & failures on the sight. It's a big help. Peace, love & happiness, - 23
