January 12 Great shave So yesterday I purposly skipped shaving casue today I was getting my package. Two new hart Steel Razors (I fell in love with these and have now collected one of each scale type with a few extras) A new hone a new strop (this one is for traveling so I can keep one at home) 6 shaving towels 6 steaming towels So after Honing my razors (I now have 9, one for each day and two spares for rotating through, I hone about once a year) I began my shaving routine. I began with putting on a pot to boil with some eucalyptus leaves in it. fill a large bowl with Ice and water and set 1 towel in it. While waiting for water to boil I stropped my razor. 15 passes up 15 passes down on the wool strop then 20 passes up and 20 passes down on the leather. Tea Pot ready I filled my shaving mug and placed my brush in the water. In a second cup I pours in the hot water and let my shaving oil sit there to also heat up. I then took a hot shower and scrubbed face clean. Using Trufitt & Hill Sandalwood Shaving cream and a nice silvertip Large Badger hair brush I got my hot lather. Lathered up and placed the first hot towel treatment. As each towel cooled I repeated this process 4 times finishing with the boiling water on the hot towel. Then applied the warmed shaving oil lathered up First Pass Wash face, lather, hot towel, oil, Second Pass Wash face, Lather, Hot Towel, oil Final Pass luke warm towel, cool towel, Ice Cold Towel Alum bar Ice Cold Towel Apply some Truefitt & Hitt Sandalwood Aftershave Balm Finish with some Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood Colonge. I will say I am just as happy with the new razor as I was my first hart razor. Also I found that warming the oil and the hot towels and the ice cold towel as a finisher was SO AMAZING.
Thursday - another day closer. Prep: Hot shower, soak brush Coffee: Costa Rica Royal Tarrazu, BLACK Soap: Vintage Old Spice Brush: Vulfix 404 badger/boar, the Grosvenor Razor: Merkur 11C Blade: ASR Platinum Chrome, day 4, 3+ passes Post: Cold water rinse, Brut ASB, Brut AS, Brut cologne (sparingly ), hand strop blade 'Stache Wax: Steve's Own Shave Rating: 5 Blades A great shave all the way 'round.
Wednesday: Soap: Homemade Guinness Brush: Vulfix 247 pure badger Razor: Gillette Fatboy @ 3 (Thanks Rick!) Blade: Personna (day?) Post: Witch Hazel, Shea Moisture Tea Tree AS Great first shave with the Fatboy. The 3 setting on this seems to be much milder than that of my Super Adjustable even though the heads look identicle. Could be because I may be on upwards of day 5 with this blade (I really need to hit the dollar store). Still a close, comfortable shave.
Great shave today Omega 6217 pure badger '53 Super Speed Wilkinson Sword Classic white label, German - shave 2 Jock Soap pre-shave oil Jock Soap Shore Leave shaving cream Thayer's WH, Lavender Homemade Bay Rum AS (water, vodka infused with calendula, aloe, glycerin, bay EO) What a fine close shave this morning. Quite interesting! Perhaps you might start a thread in the Pre and post section and elaborate? I would like to know more!
WOW! Now THAT"S a shaving experience! After a shaving regime like that I would be so relaxed I couldn't walk. All kidding aside, that's a really luxurious shave and it sounds like all the prep was time well spent. Enjoy!
Wade & Butcher Frameback Omega Pro 49 Home Made Lemon Grass Pinaud Clubman Outstanding Shave ! Love this Blade :shocked031
It was i did it after work and after the shave had a pipe of black cavendish. and a tumbler of s18yr single malt. It was so relaxing. I only do that maybe once every two weeks. Typically i use one hot towel, one ice cold towel to finish, three passes with my razor, pre-shave oil and shave cream a lil balm and done. Also I like how the straight razor shave is so close that I really only need to shave every other day.
I got that holder, brush and the razor as a set. (Actually, the razor that came with the set was a 23c, this is 11c) Do you have the chrome cup as well?
Thursday, January 13, 2011 Razor: Merkur Futur Blade: Treet Durasharp Brush: Simpson Emperor 2 Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Pashana American Bay Rum Splash The combination of the Futur razor and Durasharp blade is proving to be a great one for me. This morning's shave was smooth, effortless, and BBS. The Durasharp works very well in all razors that I've used it with, but I think the Futur brings out the best in blades. The MWF, which made a great lather, didn't hurt either. It was truly a great shave, and the Pashana Bay Rum was an excellent, refreshing finish.
