For those of you who have used the proraso balm, how does it compare in texture and effectiveness to something like the Nivea line of after shave balms. I am interested in trying it but I am trying to figure out if it might be too thick when I apply it or if it isn't worth the extra money because it isnt any more soothing. P.S The balm i currently use is TBS Arber balm and it works great. Just looking to try something new.
If someone punched you wildly and repeatedly, this stuff would soothe you and you wouldn't feel anything but nice and light cooling. If it weren't for the scent, which is OK, i'd stock this stuff towers high in my storage. I enjoy American Crew aftershave more. Or Saint Charles Shave aftershave milks.
The Proraso is much better than Nivea and worth the extra money. I like the scent. It isn't as thick and feels great - a very refreshing balm.
I have a soft spot for Proraso as it was my first balm but I find it more soothing than Nivea balm. I also find the Proraso to be lighter or less greasy than some of the other balms I have. Recently the Proraso has taken the back seat to Speick balm for me though. YMMV Doug
Proraso is a touch thinner than Nevia. It's good stuff. I would say it's worth the extra cash and the wait for shipping. And you might as well spring for the splash as well... one of the best out there IMO.
Just bought some. I hope it works out. what price do you guys usually get it for? I bought it online for $16 including shipping but was wondering if people are getting it either online or locally (italian specialty store??) for cheaper.
You won't regret your purchase and if you do, you can sell it for what you bought it for in the BST forum.
If you're in the US or Canada (due to shipping costs), www.italianbarber.com is currently the best priced place to get it. That's where I buy either from their web site or their eBay listings.
Love the new avatar Jody I have to chime and give my two cents about Proraso The Proraso balm is not as thick as the Nivea It absorbs very quickly, not oily at all Very cooling and healing As Jody pointed out you should shop around... I buy my Proraso locally and keep it in stock at all times
I tried the proraso balm. So far I am not sure what i think about it being worth the extra money or not. But i had a question for those familiar with it. When you bought it new did you notice that the balm took a long time to pour out of the bottle? I have used it twice and it it take a long time for it to come out. The second time i had to shake it a couple of times against my hands to get the product out. Its almost as if its half used but i cant tell for sure. Is this normal?
That isn't normal in my experience. It pours right out and I have to be a bit careful not to get too much. I purchased the bottle I'm using now a couple of years ago, but I haven't read anything about a reformulation.
I just spoke to the vendor and he told me that it was normal. I'm still not sure. Does anyone else experience the problem or is it like the above poster said and the stuff should pour out freely every time?
This is all I use, nothing else. No, that's not normal. It's called "crema liquida" (liquid cream) for a reason. It's liquidy and pours out quite easy. I transfer mine from the glass bottles it comes in to a plastic bottle with a pump top. It transfers very easily because of its liquidity. I'd say you've either got a bad batch or an old bottle, most likely the latter. Who is the vendor?
I've been using the Proraso ASB for a few weeks now and I think it is great. It's not oily like the Nivea, and doesn't dry my face like the Clinique (especially in the middle of the long Canadian winters). Given it's price ($12 at the local Italian Centre) and wide availability here, I will deffinately continue to buy it when in need of something simple and effective (or for winter).
It's interesting you like the Proraso Balm for winter. For me Proraso is a real summer product. Where I live we have had a run of 38-40 degree celsius days - weeks even, which I think is about 100-104 Fahrenheight. Apart from a really cold beer there is nothing as refreshing as a Proraso shave in these temperatures. Just an oberservation...
