How to keep the Red paint from coming off a Gillette "Red Tip"?

I Just recieved a very nice Gillette Red tip and am looking to preserve the Red paint, if it is paint, and keep it from flaking off, which it has done, nominally.

any ideas? Varnish? nail polish? Polyurethane? I would like some input on how to preserve this important detail of this DE, to the extent it can be preserved. any serious input would be appreciated.

When I was heavy into scale modeling once I completed the project, I would spray a coat or two of laquer to preserve the decals and paint job on hte models. I do not know if this would work on a razor. I figure it would do the same since what it would be doing is sealing and proteting the paint. Then again it will not protect it against nicks or heavy scratches resulting from dropping the razor.

    Don't boil it for cleaning.

Spray varnish would work so long as you're careful not to over spray and gum the proverbial works. Flat clear nail polish would probably work well, but if you put on too much it might peel.

    Krylon's Int'l Harvester Red is a perfect match. :D

(Alway's tell someone if you decide to sell it that it has been "restored".)

Bronco I followed your advice. I found Krylon International Harvester Red brush on paint, by the quart at a local hardware store. I masked off the old Red tip area on the Gillete DE and painted the red tip to "restore" it. looks great. thanks.

I don't plan on selling it. it is a keeper.

Oh... this is an easy one.

    Don't use it............. [IMG]

other than that, proper application of a laquer, as mentioned, will work.
