Here's raw unedited video of the huge tornado that devastated Tuscaloosa, Alabama today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0FHTG9VETY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ohIVzIZLuQ About 20, 30 minutes before that one, another huge one practically wiped out the town of Cullman, Alabama. This is the same storm cell that started here where I live in Mississippi, spawning four tornadoes as it traveled across MS into Alabama, including one about 4 miles from my house. One of the four hit the town my dad lives in here in MS, Philadelphia, and did lots of major damage there. Dad and his wife are still without power and are staying the night in a hotel in town. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XInx2RsPIz8 Destruction is all over Mississippi and Alabama. April has been one wild month for tornados. I heard weather dude say today that the record for an April in Mississippi was back in 1936 with 275 tornados (not sure how they counted that many way back in 1936?). They said we're around 400 now with 2 days left in April. Anyway, sending positive thoughts and vibes to everyone in the Mid-West and the South dealing with this. I think Georgia is getting hit hard right now as I post this. Hope everyone makes it through safely.
Nasty stuff, tht's for sure. Glad you are OK. SWMBO was texting with her sister in Atlanta about the storms around same time of your post.
We have a distribution center in Cullman, AL. The power is reported down for at least two days. I am still trying to assess the damage. I pray that no more life is lost than what has already been lost.
And it's the same system that came through here the evening before, tearing up East Texas, Southern Arkansas, and across Louisiana. Bad stuff. Glad to hear you're okay.
my heart felt prayers go out to all who has suffered in Mississippi & Alabama from these horrific storms. THey did hit last night hear in georgia, in the northern parts. It's been on the local channels before daybreak.
It certainly has been a wild Spring. My thoughts, hopes, and prayers go out to all affected by these storms.
Well sorry about the first video no longer working. Not sure why but the guy has now made it a private video.

Also check out TornadoVideos.net. Those were some busy guys this week, driving all the way from central Arkansas, down near Dallas, back east through Marshall, Shreveport, Jackson, to Tuscaloosa and everywhere in between. As I posted in the HYD, I heard the "chance of tornadoes" report on the news Tuesday morning and just kinda thought "yeah, it's this time of year". Then I started reading about all the storm chasers (including the Discovery Channel team) coming to my area, I started to take it seriously. It never fully developed here like they thought it would, but it did when it got closer to Jody's neck of the woods.
The sheer magnitude of this is simply unimaginable for someone, like me, who has never had to really deal with tornadoes. We had alerts when I was stationed at FT Benning and FT Hood, one even touched down near my NCO's house, but I didn't see it, just felt the temp and pressure drop. That was enough. I truly feel for those of you who live with this year after year.
From the TornadoVideos.net site: Wednesday, April 27,2011 was that once in a generation tornado outbreak that's been looming since April 4, 1974. With the death toll climbing over 200 as of this morning, it is easily the deadliest outbreak in the modern Doppler era. Seemingly every thunderstorm that formed after the noon hour spawned a violent tornado. Dozens of communities in Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia took direct hits. The damage is staggering. Seasoned, veteran storm chasers and meteorologists agree that they have never seen anything like this.
I hope these storms and flooding will be over soon. the heartland cant take much more battering by the cruel mistress we call mother nature.
That is true for three weeks we have been getting hammered with hail, rain, thunder-storms, and tornadoes. Please keep everyone in that states that have been hit in your prays. It does help us.
