Of course the safe bet is to do it every day, but there are reasons to skip a day. If I don't do anything to get dirty or sweaty, it's not really necessary, and kind of a waste of materials. But at the same time I enjoy it. But at the same time, I have trouble with dry skin, and showering too often doesn't help. I would imagine given the nature of our shared hobby we're a well-groomed crew here. I was just wondering what your ritual is.
I always take a shower in the morning, but if I do anything other than sit on my butt I take one in the evening also: there have been days when I have taken three showers and always wash my hair if I take a shower. I take a nice hot shower to get some blood flowing to that small walnut sized brain of mine, but washing my hair must be done since I have very oily hair if I do not. So since I don't have dry skin I may not have been much help.
I shower once a week, whether I need it or not. I usually shower once a day (morning time). However if I had a very hard day of yard work, or anything that makes me sweaty will have a quick shower later in the day. I do skip a shower every once in awhile but that usually is maybe once a month. I have dry skin as you and I try to use moisturizer after my showers. Mostly just on my shoulders and top of my arms.
Beat me to it.... How often I shower is variable. If I was out a lot, sweaty, worked out, or otherwise more dirty than normal, I shower that evening. I shower about 3-4 times a week average, but it varies. On the topic, in general I think we shower too much. We wash the protective layer off our skin so frequently and with so many chemicals and such that I think it does more harm than good. I've been doing oil cleansing method for over two years now on my face, no soap has been intentionally applied to my face (T-zone anyway...forehead and nose area that don't get shaved) and my skin has never been clearer or so normal. Edit: I should also note that, living in Texas, this time of year through Summer is usually a more frequent shower number due to the fact that you can step outside at 6:30 AM and instantly be drenched in sweat
once sometimes twice depending on the work load. I rarely skip a day. Im a very oily person and I also cant stand to smell my self. I can get pretty funky according to my own nose by the end of the day.
Shower, shampoo, shave every morning. Helps me wake up. Makes me feel better. I'm paranoid about smelling bad. You meet a lot of people in the military. There were quite a few I met that I WISH they had showered once a week!
Put me on the list of showering every day, I can't handle not showering and I can't handle showering twice a day. I've been using Dial's new glycerin soap, the lather somewhat sucks and the bar looks like compressed baby puke, but it seems to leave my skin pretty natural smelling and feeling. Once I run out of the baby puke bars I probably will go back to Axe's Rise Body Wash, its a good citrus scent that doesn't dry out your skin or reek of chemicals.
Lately I've been using Mama Bear's bath soaps, because Sue is THE master and everything she does is pure gold, in my book. I also use Old Spice body wash, and lately I've been wanting to collect every scent. I also recently picked up some CO Bigelow hair and body wash, and that stuff is great and pretty moisturizing. In the summer I do have to shower just about every day in the summer because here in Texas we won't see less than 95 degrees for three months and, like sol92258 said, you can't go outside without sweating. But during the cooler months I try to keep an every other day schedule, and then I'm only lathering my entire body 2 or 3 times a week. The other days it's just the vital areas. It really doesn't require this much thought, I know, I'm just very OCD. Sol92258, what city are you in?
NE corner where all the tornadoes have been dancing around; Atlanta specifically Yeah, I forgot to mention how many of the times when I shower, I may only just rinse off, a little bit of soap for the areas that need it.
Normally once per day in the evening before a shave. Occasionally I'll shower twice in day if I've been very active or skip a day if I've done nothing and it isn't too hot.
During the spring, summer, and fall, twice a day on Mondays and Wednesdays, once in the morning before work and since we run M/W/F during this time of year, once in the evening too. I don't work Fridays, most of the time, so I skip the morning shower and only shower after we run. The weekend all depends on if I do something other than lounge around, in which case I shower as necessary. I am like a few of you guys who can't stand to smell offensive even in the least. I haven't figured out how to live around the winter yet, so we don't run then, and then I just shower in the mornings on workdays and as necessary on the weekends.
I don't have a dry skin issue... in fact, I have the opposite. I grow very straight, medium shine, brown-black hair. IMO, it looks darn good when it grows! But, faster than my skin, it becomes oily quickly. By that, I shower every morning, because even overnight, unless i've pulled an all nighter, it won't look as good as it could. I use Dr. Bronners all around... it's fixed my acne and oily skin without giving me dry skin. Might be worth a shot to try the reverse on you? It claims to be the fix-it-all (liquid) soap. Woooo, 400th post for me!
I like clean fresh smelling sheets! So if I go to bed and not cleaned up, well. I help change them, so it's better to keep ME clean which helps keep the sheets clean too.
:happy102 :happy102I think Madame would throw me from the house if I went for more than 2 days without to shower. I do very dirty work, so you can imagine how I would stink!
My wife only showers once a week. She is from a country where you still go to the Hammam or public baths on Friday or so for a good scrubbing bath. Even though her household in her country and here has a shower she still prefers to bathe weekly. The Hamman is equipped with several rooms of different temperature for sitting as well as showers and attendants who use a material to mercilessly scrub your body for a small fee. Also the hamman is social as you would go with a neighbor, friend or family members . You can bring soup and sandwiches and have a nice meal afterwards or go to a cafe for fresh juice. I like the hamman and when visiting I go every day or every other day. My in laws find this behavior highly strange. Wifey maintains excellent hygiene NEVER emanates anything suggesting a bad odor. She seems to just rely on a washing up and our home has a bidet.
Every morning...And if I do anything to break a sweat usually a shower before bed...During the summers if I hang out on the Mediterranean I usually shower every afternoon, after swimming. When on tour I'll shower before and after gigs and the same thing when I'm gigging during the summertime. A shower and shave getting ready for the gig and one when I get home... But like Erik said, if I don't do anything and its not hot and for me if the in-laws are visiting, that combination might force me to miss a day on occasion... I think I have normal skin, but I use Arko Nem moisturizing creams and Olive-Farm Shower Gel, with olive oil... I've been using those products for so long, maybe I have dry skin and don't know it...LOL My Dad said when he was growing up, he spent the summers at his grand-parents plantation in the country in Virginia. It was a Civil-War vintage huge farm... They didn't have running water in the house, and for personal hygene and grooming purposes they used the classic large wash bowls with large pitchers of water in each person's bed-room...He said "Every night we would stand at the sink and wash up as far as possible and down as far as possible and every Saturday night we'd fill the tub and wash possible"...:happy102 :happy102
Agreed-we all shower too much, our skin would be better off with less. That said I'm a daily shower guy-most days.
